From ordinary restaurants to billions of investment hotels are opening in the forests of Chure, three cable cars centered on Chure hills are in operation
What you should know
71-year-old Galg Bahadur Kumal Chure is shocked to see the rapid development of Nuwakot protected area. He is from Tinau Rural Municipality-1 Nuwakot in Palpa and has been mining in the hills of Nuwakot since his childhood. As far as I know, there are only 8/10 houses in Nuwakot, now the trend of building houses and opening hotels is increasing. Along with the house built by Dilig Bahadur in the field of grain cultivation, there is also a wide fluctuation in his past experience and present view.
When Gallagh Bahadur was 15/16 years old, there were few houses and many forests in Nuwakot. However, it was too crowded for people to stop. People used to come down from mountains like Palpa, Gulmi, Arghakhanchi, Syangja, carrying ghee to get Khasyuli salt. Nuwakot Danda was a place to keep records of the people who came together before the fall of Khasyuli. Horses, mules and people coming on foot were busy. While watching
, that situation changed . Gallagh Bahadur became a 35-year-old young man . Then Butwal-Palpa road was built. After the road was opened, Nuwakot's luster disappeared. The hustle and bustle left and it became deserted . With the speed of time, the situation also changed . Long Bahadur's age went up . The glow of Nuwakot, which began to grow when he was about 60 years old, has now reached a certain point. Daily 50 motorcycles, 15/20 cars and jeeps have arrived. The number of going by cable car is also the same.
Gallagh Bahadur narrated that Nuwakot turned around and regained its sanity with his old age . He said, ``You see, it's getting crowded, now there's a crowd of people again!,'' he said, ``They used to say that Bains and Ace are coming back, it's old people.''
"Times have changed, at that time Nuwakot used to be a place where heavy salt was made and where people stayed at night," he said. There is also a cable car ride and 8 km road trip is enough. Nuwakot is now becoming a destination for domestic and foreign tourists as the number of people who travel by foot, cable car and vehicle are increasing.
Hotels, restaurants and homestays are operating for going to Nuwakot . The number of people investing in the development of infrastructure, hotels, restaurants and entertainment in Nuwakot Hill, which is connected with the history of the British war, is increasing in the last five years. In Nuwakot alone, 12 small and big restaurants have been added in the last two years . Young businessmen from Butwal and Palpa have invested 2.5 million to 2 million in them.
Another Basantpur hill at the head of Butwal in Chure area like Nuwakot has been buzzing for two years . After dusk, the lights lit on Basantpur Hill give the impression that Bhairahawa city has been brought close to the hill. The glimmer of Butwal seen from Basantpur and the street lights connected to Siddharth Highway lead to Bhairahawa in a moment. As lovely as the view from Basantpur is, Basantpur does not have the local settlements and hustle and bustle. Only 2/3 houses are local . About 8/10 houses have been compensated and relocated by Lumbini Cable Car . Basantpur, which is the only commercial area of cable cars, is increasing the attraction of Indian tourists. From the scorching heat of Butwal, you can reach Basantpur within 10 minutes by taking a cable car from Butwal, so Indian tourists come to Basantpur to enjoy the cool weather. There are no big hotels to stay here. However, the small restaurants are owned by the cable car company. IME Group, which is operating the Lumbini cable car, is preparing to open a 5-star hotel in Basantapu with an investment of more than 3 billion.
In the last 2 years, commercial attraction has accelerated rapidly in these two hills in the Chure region of Mahabharata. Butwal sub-metropolitan city in Nuwakot and Tinau rural municipality in Palpa are giving priority to infrastructure development. To connect Nuwakot along with the cable car, the road has been constructed from Butwal side and has been tarred. After connecting both Nuwakot and Basantpur hills by two separate cable cars, the two hills near Butwal have started to become Gulzar . Along with Gulzar, the concern of the concerned people is also increasing as encroachment has started to increase in Chure area . Lumbini cable car is operating in Basantpur and Siddharth cable car is running in Nuwakot. There is no local investment and ownership in both cables. Lumbini Cable Car is owned by businessman Chandra Dhakal Group's IME Group and Siddharth Cable Car by Prabhu Group. After increasing traffic on both hills by cable car, opening of restaurants in Nuwakot and expansion of tourist area has increased. Similarly, in Basantpur, more infrastructure structures are being built by Cable Car Group.
The Chure chain formed during the origin of the Himalayas stretches from the Brahmaputra River in India to the Indus River in Pakistan. Chure range known as Kanchha Pahad is called 'Shivalik'. The Chure range covers about 800 kilometers of 36 districts of Nepal. The Chure chain extending from East Ilam to West Kanchanpur is in Lumbini Province and from Bardghat to Bardiya in the south west. Its north-south width is from 10 to 15 kilometers according to the mountains. The Chure region which is blowing in the south-west reaches the Deukhuri in Dang, forming a narrow neck and then blowing again in the Banke and Bardia areas . Hocha Hills, Samathar plains, Khonch and Dun are protected as Chure area through the series of Hocha hills visible from Samthar Terai to the north.
In the high and green hills built near the flat land of the Terai, the attraction of internal and external tourists has started to become Gulzar. Like Nuwakot, Basantpur, from Narayani West to Bardia, there is a chain of opening commercial hotel restaurants and developing tourist infrastructure in almost a dozen stolen hills. IME Group has operated the Maulakalika cable car at Chure Danda above Gaindakot near Narayani West. Ila Hotel and Resort is also operating in the forest of Chure area with more than 1 billion investment of the group. Maulakalika is also a religious place. It is also developing the stolen area as a religious tourism infrastructure. Similarly, hotels and restaurants are opening along with the development of human settlements in Chure's Downne area, Bardghat's Samsarnat, Sunwal's Ghaiyabari, Rupandehi's Jhingamara above Sainamaina, Kapilvastu's Dhankhola area, Dang's Rapti Rural Municipality-9 Devikot.
Samsaranat located in Bardghat Municipality-2 in West Nawalparasi is 6 km away from Bardghat market. There, local businessmen raise local chickens and feed the same dishes to the domestic tourists who come there . Similarly, restaurants have also opened in Ghaiyabari, which is 8 km from Sunwal market in Sunwal Municipality. The attraction is also increasing as many areas of Palpa and Terai can be viewed from Ghaiyabari bordering Palpa . Locals also live in Ghaiyabari. Lately, hotels and restaurants are also being opened in Tinau rural municipality-1 Jhingamara of Palpa, which can be reached at a distance of about 12 km from Murgia market in Rupandehi. Pauwa Hotel Pvt Ltd, which has gained fame in the hotel sector, is preparing to open a 5-star hotel in Jhingamara by investing more than 2 billion.
The area where Pauwa is preparing to open a hotel is the entire Chure hill . Dhruv Neupane, chief executive officer of Pauwa Hotel, said that since the greenery and coolness of the mountain has been attracting Indian tourists in recent years, they have prepared to invest in Chure Hill. "We have already purchased 350 ropani land in Jhingamara," he said, "We are preparing a detailed project and starting the construction work."
Devikot located in Rapti rural municipality-9 of Dang is also becoming a center of tourist attraction recently. After Ridi Rapti Group Pvt Ltd launched a plan with Rapti Agro Resort and Paragliding at a cost of nearly 2 crores, the attraction in Devikot is increasing . Man Bahadur Budha Magar, President of Riddy Rapti Group Pvt. Ltd., said that Devikot can be developed as the best paragliding after Pokhara and that it has the potential to become a tourist destination in Lumbini Province.
Devikot in Chure region has the potential to become an excellent destination for domestic and foreign tourists, so we are excited to invest in it, he said, "We have successfully conducted a paragliding test flight." We are also opening a resort at a cost of more than 20 million.' He said that when the infrastructure is ready for tourists to enjoy using the hills of Chure, the beautiful Rapti gorge, Rapti river, Banglachuli and the territory of India that can be seen from there will attract tourists.
The cool environment is also increasing the attraction with the view of the hills and the plains near the Terai under the Chure area. From Moulakalika to Basantpur, Nuwakot, Jhingamara to Devikot, the cold wind continues to blow continuously for 12 months. While the temperature is 40 degrees on the flat land of the Terai, it is only up to 25 degrees in the hills. Madhav Nepal, the president of Nuwakot Development Committee and a hotel businessman in Butwal, said that hotel business has increased in Chureka Hills as it attracts Indian tourists along with the natives.
"It is our duty to protect Chure," he said, "while protecting it, we should also take advantage of it." That is why there are more and more people doing business on the customary land of Chure area. Most of the hotels and restaurants opened in Nuwakot have been opened on private land and the area of Chure is not encroached upon, he said.
President Chure Tarai Madhesh Conservation Development Committee's Program Implementation Unit Office Butwal has been doing conservation work in Chure area under 9 districts of Lumbini Province. 54 local level offices in 9 districts are within the scope of office . Ananath Baral, head of unit Butwal, said the program implementation under the Forest Office and President Chure Tarai Madhesh Sankshan Bikas Samiti is under the jurisdiction of controlling or studying the encroachment of human settlements and infrastructure construction in Chure. "Human settlements and infrastructure works are increasing in the hills of Chure," he said, "uncontrolled settlements, infrastructure development, mining, river exploitation are the main challenges of Chure encroachment." The
Chure series itself is an area of loose sheet rock that is not fully excavated. So it is considered to be very sensitive by nature. Environment researcher Yuvraj Kandel said that if the sensitivity of Chure is not understood in time, it will cause a huge human disaster.
'However, despite being aware of it, the destruction of Chure is increasing in the name of infrastructure development and tourism infrastructure,' he said, 'it can cause a major humanitarian disaster at any time.' He said that although the government set up the Chure Area Protection and Development Committee to make Chure free of human settlements, the work has not been done according to that, and recently Chure hills have started to be filled with human settlements as a tourist spot.
