One such bus park: inside is full of garbage, outside is surrounded by bushes.
What you should know
A new bus park was constructed in 2069 at Tekantol located in Chandrapur Municipality-4 after the main intersection of the East-West Highway and Gaur section were disrupted. With the assumption that the practice of keeping buses will end by turning the road into a parking lot, a new bus park was also inaugurated by putting cars in Tamjham, Bajagaza, and other vehicles.
Buses running Gaur-Chandrapur for two to three months were also operated from there. Less than 6 months later, businessmen stopped plying buses at the bus park citing security reasons. Now there is not a single bus in the bus park. The bus park was idle for 13 years. Now a bus park with charging facilities has been built. But there is not a single bus. It is not operational. The municipality has not been able to take a concrete decision on whether to operate or contract.
Last year, Birganj, an intensive urban and building construction project, has built toilets, showers, rest rooms, and chamenagriha in a bus park with charging stations. The contractor company has completed the work and handed it over to Chandrapur Municipality on 15th of February. But even after four months, there is still not a single bus in the bus park. After the contractor handed it over to the municipality, now the main gate of the bus park has been locked. The inside is full of garbage, the outside is surrounded by bushes. The building with 9 shutters is still standing.
Mayor Sanjay Kafle of Chandrapur Municipality said that buses will be kept at the bus park in July. "We are discussing how to get the bus there," he said, "soon we will start the bus park." It is not too late. A decision has yet to be reached whether the municipality will run it or contract it.' Photo: Shiv Puri/Kantipur
A machine for charging various electric vehicles has been installed inside the bus park. Now those machines are kept under cover. The locals said that the walls around were starting to crack. The bus park has become deserted as the vehicles are not parked.
State MP Yuvraj Bhattarai from Maoist responded that he is ready to help and take initiative if there is any difficulty in bus park operation. What has hindered the operation now? If it is left stranded like this, there may be problems in the days to come," he said. "Rather than causing an accident by leaving vehicles all over the road, it would be better to take all the vehicles there and operate them soon." This went on for a long time. Locals and traffic pressured to keep buses in the bus park being built in Tekantol saying that the risk of traffic accidents has increased and the market area is chaotic. Locals built a bus park on government land near the Chandi River, surrounding it with a wire fence. Soon after, a large number of locals and vehicle workers gathered and lined up buses and half a dozen Tata Sumos with goods inside the bus park. For some time, the chaos in the main square disappeared. Locals felt that the traffic jam was over for some time. After that, within 6 months of its operation, vehicles were stopped in the bus park.
The then chairman of the bus park construction committee, Pratap Lama, started the bus park. Lal Babu Giri, President of Rautahat Bus Business Association, said that there is a problem in keeping buses at Tekantol due to security. He insisted that no bus can be kept at Tekan Bus Park under any circumstances. "Until we feel adequate security, we will not take buses to Tekan," he said. We have stopped parking after the bus employees became unsafe. There are 75 buses affiliated to the
association. Chairman Giri said that they are experiencing inconvenience due to parking. The association has requested to operate the bus park elsewhere than Tekan. If the union refuses to take the bus, the municipality is preparing to park it in Tekan, even with the help of security personnel. Mayor Kafle said that he will persuade the businessmen to stop parking on the road and put them in parks with facilities. He claims that this is the reason why he will hold discussions with the businessmen and prepare to bring the bus park into operation soon.
Initially, a rule was made that all vehicles coming and going from Gaur should go directly to Tekan. However, the businessmen stopped plying the bus citing security reasons. The municipality has called the stakeholders and said that they will start the initiative to put all the buses in the bus park. The municipality has prepared to construct a bus holding center in the Chandi Pul area of the east and to put the bus park in Tekantol into operation soon.
Buses, trucks, e-rickshaws, jeeps are still parked on the road on both sides of Chandranigahpur Chowk and Gaur Road on the East-West Highway. The road from Chandipul to West Jungletol has the same situation on the right and left. According to the rules, vehicles cannot be parked on the road. Even though the traffic has put up a no parking board, the vehicle workers have put it up against the rules. Rautahat District Traffic Chief Lokendra Adhikari said that after the new bus park is operational, the problem of haphazard parking on the highway will be solved. "Now they park their vehicles wherever they want," he said. After that, the chaotic square will look clean.'
Mayor Kafle also claimed that the problem of unorganized bus parking will be eliminated after the bus park is operational. "Bus parks are useful to reduce traffic congestion and accidents on highways during festivals," he said.
Vinayak/Prajil JV Sukuldhoka, Bhaktapur has been awarded the contract of bus park with charging station, tarred road and drain for Rs. The municipality has claimed that the bus park, which is in a standstill condition, will soon be put into use. The municipality has been receiving criticism saying that the bus park has been lying idle for a long time and is not being used.
