From Gaighat to Bisanpur, there are nearly 300 houses along the banks of Triyuga river. They who have been facing flood of Triyuga River during rainy season have sad news this year too, because Triyuga River Control Office has been cancelled.
This is a sad news for those who were hoping that a dam would be built on the Triyuga river and they would be able to live safely during the rainy season. After the government canceled the Triyuga River Control Office, not only the river control work has come to a standstill, there has been concern about how much damage will be caused by floods during the rains .
The embankment could not be constructed in the Triyuga river from Haritpark in Bisanpur to the south this year. Last year, the Triyuga river flooded the green park. Triveni Child Center, Children's Ashram, Old Age Ashram and Cricket Stadium are being constructed in Green Park with the financial support of Triyuga Municipality and Koshi State Government. Locals have expressed concern that the area may be flooded this year as there is no embankment in the river.
"Every year floods are already causing damage, there is a house near the river, we have to suffer," said Prathamalal Chaudhary of Bisanpur. "This year the dam will be built and I don't have to run away from the Triyuga flood, but the dam was not built, now I am in a dilemma whether to migrate or not," he complained.
Locals complain that due to the lack of construction of the dam, there is a risk of submerging large government structures and farms this year. "The rains have already started, there is no dam in the river," said Manju Rai of Bisanpur Triveni tol. She said that she had to take the risk for fear that the flood of the river would enter the settlement and cause great damage again.
The Triyuga River Control Office, which was established 4 years ago to embank both sides of the river from the mouth of Triyuga River to Fattepur in Saptari, has been abolished by the government, and the work of river control is in confusion. "From June, a circular has come from the center that there will be no office in the district, now there will be an office in Biratnagar, the work will be done from here," said Rajendra Prasad Dev, Acting Head of Triyuga River Control Office, Gaighat.
He said that DPR of 8 billion has been prepared for Triyuga river control, but only 2 billion has been spent so far. "Currently, only 30 kilometers of the 111 kilometers of dams from the head of Triyuga River to its tail are being built. Due to lack of budget, only 70 million works have been done this year," he said.
Under the multi-year contract, Kalika and Gajarmukhi Construction are working on dam construction on the bank of Triyuga river under Triyuga, Chaudandi and Belka municipalities, he said. A project office has been established at Gaighat in 2069/070 for Triyuga river control. Due to the annual erosion of the river, almost 90 percent of the arable land in Jogidah, Hadia, Sundarpur, Basaha and Tapeshwari was turned into sand, and the river control work was started. Due to the flood, the residents of the area were displaced by cutting and washing away many houses in the settlements around the river. It is mentioned in the data that Triyuga river has eroded thousands of hectares of land.
Triyuga Municipality-7 Chief Dev said that the government has established a project office with the aim of building a dam based on biological technology on the right and left side of the river at a distance of 42.5 km from Chisapani to the point where it joins Saptakoshi. After the completion of the
plan, the goal is to free thousands of residents of Saptakoshi, along with Triyuga, Chaudandigadi, Belka Municipality and Kanchanpur of Saptari from the flood, he said. According to him, 80,000 people of 10,000 households will directly benefit from the embankment, 2,200 hectares of land will benefit and 400 hectares of land will be developed due to the embankment. But due to lack of budget, the project has not been able to work according to the target .
