Police arrested 25-year-old Sushil Chaudhary of Lalbandi Municipality-1 Nawalpur with 244 kg of marijuana from Chure area of ​​Sarlahi on Wednesday night. During the police investigation, Chaudhary has not yet revealed the name of the main owner of the marijuana.

The police are claiming that they are trying to get close to the main person. This is just the latest and typical incident of marijuana seizure. Such incidents are happening not only in Sarlahi but also in Madhesh province every day. 

When looking at the statistics of the seized marijuana by the police, it seems that the drug marijuana business has increased in Madhesh province in the last two years. In the incident on Wednesday, a pick-up vehicle bearing the number Ba20ch 1782 coming from Marine in Sindhuli to Lalbandi in Sarlahi was stopped during checking at Lalbandi Municipality-13 Patharkot. And in this car was Sushil Chaudhary . According to Sujan Pathak, police inspector of the area police office, Lalbandi, Chaudhary was arrested with 45 bags of ganja, which he was bringing hidden under a sack of chaff.

It is enough to look at the statistics of the financial years 2080/081 and 2081/082 to understand how much the cases of ganja trafficking are increasing in Madhesh. According to the data of the Madhesh Province Police Office, 8 thousand 540 kg 950 grams of marijuana were seized in 8 districts of the province in 2080/081. In 2081/082, the police seized almost four thousand kilos more than the previous year, i.e. 12 thousand 391 kilos and 606 grams of ganja . This data shows how marijuana trafficking is increasing in Madhesh.

The police have information that marijuana is being cultivated commercially in Chure area of ​​Sarlahi and Sindhuli. But it seems that the police has not been able to conduct a detailed investigation on who is involved in such cultivation and how they are able to spend a long time to produce marijuana and send it to India illegally. As a result, cases of marijuana smuggling are becoming public.  

Based on the statements of those arrested with marijuana, it is understood that the main market for marijuana produced in districts like Makwanpur, Sindhuli, Sarlahi, Parsa is the border Indian market. The police found that Chaudhary, who was arrested in Wednesday's incident, saved the names of various people in code language on his mobile phone. Police inspector Pathak told that the name of the main man of Gaza suppliers may have been kept in the code language.

Because the ganja smugglers were taking ganja to India under the guise of weapons. In this incident, the police arrested 21-year-old Sawan Giri of Tikulia, Gaur municipality-4, with marijuana and weapons. On the same night, the police team who was waiting for Gounda in Kerabari on the west side of Jholunge Bridge found 4 people walking with plastic bags on their heads. Some people in front and back were protecting the porter carrying marijuana by lighting torches. 

After seeing that he was carrying ganja towards India through the middle road of Kerabari on the west side of the bridge, the police lit torches to identify him . Then those carrying marijuana threw away the sack and ran away. While chasing, the police found Giri lying on the ground and took him into custody. The police recovered a katuwa pistol from him. Also recovered .

Near the place where Giri was arrested, the police found 4 sacks full of marijuana. Inside the sack were 11 small worms. Police Inspector Uma Shankar Prasad informed that there were about 190 kg of marijuana inside the bag. Giri has been investigated by the court under the crime of narcotics and arms possession. In this incident, 6/7 people of the group carrying marijuana escaped. 

As the traffic of ganja started increasing in the Terai-Madhesh district, the district administration Parsa has started a three-month awareness program on drug prevention and control from this Chait 27. Chief District Officer Ganesh Aryal has asked everyone to save the district from the scourge of drug abuse. The police and the administration have started such a campaign saying that Parsa district has become a transit hub for drug trade. The amount of seizures is increasing
Police claim that Jagarnathpur, Patervasugauli and Thori Rural Municipality of Parsa have recently become transit hubs for drug users and marijuana. According to the police, 220 drug cases have been registered in Parsa in the current financial year. In Parsa, the security personnel destroyed 37 bigha and 4 katha of cannabis cultivation in a period of nine months. SP Gautam Mishra, the police chief of Parsa, said that community forests and partnership forests in rural areas are being encroached upon and destroyed based on information about the cultivation of marijuana. He said that the joint team of Nepal Police and Armed Police is conducting cannabis cultivation.

According to the Parsa police, there seems to be an increase in the seizure of marijuana in the last 3 years. In 2079/80, the police seized 1,123 kilograms of marijuana. Similarly, in 2080/81, 467 kilograms and 1 thousand 531 kilograms of marijuana were seized during the period up to February 2081/82. According to the police officials, smuggling from Makwanpur and other districts passes through the rural areas of Gaza Strip to the border Indian market and it is increasing. 

Siraha police arrested 37-year-old Pradeep Mukhia of Karjanha Municipality-11 with about three quintals of marijuana from Karjanha School Toll located in Karjanha Municipality-11 on August 22nd. Two days ago, the team of the area police office, Mirchaiya, arrested 3 people with 217 kg of ganja from the same place. Based on the statements of the arrested, when the police searched the same place, 290 kg of ganja was recovered in an empty land at a distance of 50 meters. The police claim that the marijuana seized on both days belonged to the same gang.

According to the area police office, Mirchaiya, the initial investigation revealed that they bring from different places and store them, sell them, distribute them and smuggle them into India. District Police Bara seized 262 kg of ganja from a truck with Indian number plates on 14 June 2080. Along with ganja, the police seized the truck number BR 25 GA 1458 from Jitpur located in Jitpur Simra sub-metropolitan city-7. The then District Police Chief SP (now SSP) Hobindra Bogti, who was coming from Hetaunda to Birganj, ordered to check all the vehicles on the highway. During the investigation, the truck was seized with 9 bags of marijuana. The driver escaped. 

The team led by Chief District Officer of Saptari Bhola Dahal and Chief of Police SP Dhakendra Khatiwada recovered contraband including marijuana from a house near the gate of Baba Bhootnath Temple in Rajviraj Municipality-9 Maleth. Based on the information of the locals, after they were found loading Chinese apples from one truck to another, the security personnel were called and made to raid the warehouse . SP Khatiwada said that marijuana was found while searching the warehouse. SP Khatiwada says that 24 quintals of 19 kilos of ganja, Chinese apples and other goods were seized.

Madhesh Province Police Office Janakpur informed that 87 people including 1 woman were arrested on charges of marijuana smuggling in the last financial year. 5 thousand 362 kg have been seized so far in the current financial year. 33 people have been arrested on charges of transporting marijuana. 

Looking at the statistics of the police, it seems that most of the ganja smuggling happened in Saptari. Last year, 1,631 kilos and 3,06 grams of ganja were seized in Saptari. Last October, 240 kg of ganja was seized from Hanumannagar Kankalini Municipality-1 Koshi Barrage in Saptari. Based on information, Armed Police Security Base Camp Bhardah has recovered 490 kg of ganja only from Koshi Barrage located in Hanumannagar Kankalini Municipality-1 of Saptari in the last 7 months.  

The changing style of smuggling
The hilly part of Makwanpur is becoming a fertile ground for marijuana. The police are worried. Even though the security personnel have been uprooting ganja every year in the hilly areas from Manhari to the upper part of the district, this problem has not been resolved. Instead, the process of changing the place, changing the style and cultivating marijuana continues . How long has the police started to crack down on ganja smuggling and strictly check buses and small vehicles?

Madhesh police chief DIG Lalamani Acharya said that the production of ganja and opium has started to increase in Chure area . "Ganja and opium are all in Madhesh province. Looks like he was arrested. How much is not,' he said, 'When the debate started that cannabis should be legalized, it was understood that some people in the Chure area started claiming that it would be legalized and the income would be higher . We are identifying which groups are involved in it.' 

Gaza involved in smuggling  The police say that despite being arrested, he lied in his statement to protect its main investor . The police believe that there are many groups under the main person. According to DIG Acharya, there is an organized group that takes ganja and opium to India through Madhesh from Makwanpur, Dhading, Sindhuli and Churekshetra. But recently, the police of Madhesh province seems to be arresting porters carrying marijuana. Retired former Inspector General of Police Dheeraj Pratap Singh, who worked as the Chief of Madhesh Police Office, said that the information and effective activation of the police stationed on the highway is necessary .

Based on the information that marijuana is being produced, processed, stored and sold in some parts of Sarlahi, the joint team of District Police Sarlahi, Area Police Lalbandi and Armed Police Gana Sarlahi, in coordination with Provincial Police Narcotics Control Bureau Janakpur, seized 16 quintals of marijuana from Lalbandi Municipality-14. In this incident of June 23, 2081, the police recovered 16 drums containing marijuana and a machine for crushing marijuana. Madhesh Police Chief DIG Acharya said that a large number of security personnel were mobilized to seize the marijuana. "We are trying to break the ganja trafficker's network," he said.
