'15,000 rins from the Agricultural Development Bank made an industrialist'

Even though I can't make ends meet, I have been able to educate my children. I have been able to buy and eat anything I want. I have been able to fulfill the wishes of my children.

I was interested in studies since I was a child. Whatever I wanted to do, money did not support me. I did not get to study beyond the 5th grade. To earn a living, my father used to sew leather shoes at home. After school was canceled, I also started helping my father.

Little by little, he learned how to sew shoes. His father had done whatever he could. He did not earn much that way. So he wanted to open a shoe shop to improve his financial situation. It was not just a whim. He had money to invest. There was no one to help him.

Since he could not earn money at home, he went to Shimla, India, at the age of 18 in 032 BS to earn money. He stayed there for 10 years. He worked as a laborer along with sewing leather shoes. He could not earn much. It was enough to eat and live. Then he returned home. After he came to the village, the then head of the Agricultural Development Bank gave him 15 thousand rupees saying that he was hardworking and that if he wanted to do business, he should take a loan from the bank. With that money, he started a general shop in 038 BS. To carry forward his ancestral profession professionally, he registered the Balkrishna Leather Shoe Industry in 045 BS. Little by little, that same shop made me a businessman as well as an industrialist.

I am now continuing the business I started in 2038 alone  . After operating the industry, I have been selling shoes and slippers worth 120,000 to 150,000 rupees per month . I am now 68 years old  . I have a family of 8  . The money I earn from the industry has met my family's expenses   . I am paying off old loans  . I have also given employment to one person in the industry

The family spends 20,000 per month on 50 kg of rice worth 5,000, vegetables worth 3,000, salt worth 1,000, oil worth 4,000, meat worth 4,000, medicine, telephone and other expenses, including 7,000.  I have hired a worker in the industry . I have been paying him 18,000 per month   salary     I pay 3,000  room rent   I have been saving about 40 thousand a month on materials used in the industry, electricity and other things. I had taken a loan of 1.5 million while running the industry. I have also been paying off bank loans with the money earned from the industry.

It is my age to stay at home and relax. My daughters are married. My son and daughter-in-law have started their own businesses. Since they have neglected their ancestral profession, now I am working alone from morning to sew shoes in the industry. In the past, I used to sew shoes using the traditional method.

Now I sew using a modern machine. In the past, it used to take three days to sew one shoe. Now, using a machine, two more can be easily sewn in a day. However, the number of people coming from outside to the district headquarters, Khalanga, has decreased dramatically and the general public is enthusiastic about modern shoes and slippers, so the business has not been able to earn as much as expected.

In the past, due to the weak financial situation of the family, I could not study. I had to wait for festivals to eat meat and wear new clothes. If I bought something to eat, I would not have money. I had to live in poverty. Even though I could not make ends meet, I was able to educate my children after starting the shoe and slippers industry. I was able to buy something to eat when I wanted to. I was able to fulfill the desires of my children. Even though I could not earn much, I am happy that I was able to meet the needs of my family.

The business was good until 2070. I had employed up to four workers in the industry. After federalism, people stopped coming to Khalanga. The Corona pandemic has had a big impact on the industry. The income has decreased by half compared to the past. Even though I am 68 years old, I am continuing the business to show that if you turn your ancestral profession into a business, you can not only find employment at home, but also earn good income and do not have to go abroad for employment.
