In the beginning, it was not even thought that there would be a good income. Later, when things started to go well, I made this my livelihood. Now I will do this as long as I can. I am happy with this.

It has been exactly 30 years since he started selling fish by bicycle from village to village. Now I am 47 years old. In 2005, from the age of 17, I started selling fish from house to house in different places including Dhangadhi.
Back then, Dhangadhi was not as densely populated as it is now, and it was cheap at that time, but it was sold at a low price. Now, I sell 25 to 30 kilos of fish every day in the winter season and 10 kilos in the summer. My house is in Samarchaura, Kailari Rural Municipality. It takes at least two hours to reach Dhangadhi from my house by bicycle. I pedal my bicycle for about seven to eight hours every day, going from village to village. Cycling for seven to eight hours a day used to wear me out a lot in the beginning. Now, no matter how much I ride it, I don't feel tired. But in the summer season, it's a pain. This is my third bicycle. It's been 10 years since I started pedaling this bicycle with a box on the back. Now it's old. It breaks down from time to time. Now it's time to replace it.
There are large fish ponds in various places in our rural municipality. I usually buy fish from Koilahi Lake. I sell mostly Rahu and Common Carp. There are also people looking for silver and Baikha fish. I weigh the fish and give it to the buyers. I take the intestines home. I have raised a pig at home, and I give it to it. Pigs also have a lot of nutritious food. I give fresh fish at a slightly cheaper price than the market, and those who like fish often buy from me. Some even call the day before and order.
I started selling fish on my own. I could not do much with my studies. At that time, there were few people in the Tharu community who were engaged in business like now. It's not like it used to be like that. Most people do farming. But since our village produces a lot of fish, I thought of taking fish from place to place on a bicycle and selling it. At first, I didn't think it would be a good income. Later, when things started going well, I made this my livelihood. Now, as long as I can, I do this. I am happy with this.
My customers are almost fixed. During the winter season, every family buys fish one day a week. They say that fish is very beneficial for the body during winter. Fish also contains a lot of vitamins! They say that fish is also good for the heart. Similarly, they say that fish is very good for asthma patients and eyes. When bought in the lake, common carp and rahu cost 300 rupees per kilo. I bring it to Dhangadhi and sell it for 400 rupees per kilo. There is a good profit on days when a lot of fish is sold. However, some people even ask for loans, but later refuse to give it. Some only give half the money. I have sold fish and paid the money to the moneylender.
Kailari Rural Municipality is also called the capital of fish. There are more than a dozen large lakes in our rural municipality. The lakes under the jurisdiction of the rural municipality have been contracted by the rural municipality. Some years the price of fish is a little cheaper. Some years the price increases a lot. The production of fish is not always the same. Some years they die. In years when there is less production, the price also increases. There is a family of four at home, including two sons, Abiral and Sunil. My parents are separated. I have earned a good income from selling fish. It is the income of hard work, and I feel very happy on days when there are many sales. I raise money for my sons' education and household expenses from the sale of this fish.
