”After working all day, I enjoy eating with family in the evening”

What you should know

I joined the Nepali Army around 2062. When I joined the army, the country was in turmoil. The citizens were terrified because of the Maoist armed war at that time. That's when I grabbed the gun. Work in the army for eight years. The memories of home kept coming. But I reminded myself. He continued to say that 'duty is greater than family when the country calls.'

Until then, household expenses were running well. The monthly salary was easily covering the daily expenses of the family. While working in the army, he got an opportunity to go abroad as a peace soldier. Once in a lifetime, I got the opportunity to see across the seven seas . But stability never came to mind . The then armed war ended . The peace process also went on in Nepal. But my mind was never fixed . I was confused . Finally, I resigned in 2069 and returned home.

Sometimes I think, 'If I had not left the army job, life would have been different.' But the situation at that time forced me to take such a decision. After coming home, a few years passed like that . The door of possibility to work within Nepal was not opening. After that, I went to the neighboring country India in search of employment. I worked in different cities of India for four to five years. I sweated, but that sweat only worked for me, it could not provide a big foundation for the family.

The love of his wife and children brought him back to Nepal. I thought it would be better to do something in my own village instead of sweating abroad. After returning to Nepal, I started auto business . Till that time there were only 6 autos in Dadeldhura. I bought the seventh auto and started driving . It was not easy to drive on the hilly roads. Ups and downs, turns and turns were all challenges. However, it was easy for the passengers.

The earnings were good in the initial years. 5,000 was saved daily. More than 100 cars have arrived in Dadeldhura in a period of five years. Competition increased, passengers decreased . Earning decreased and now I have to wait for 5 days to earn 500 . Sometimes I jump for joy when I earn a thousand/fifteen hundred in a day .

has a wife and two children . The wife takes care of the housework, the children study in school . There is a house in Bhatkanda village, 10 km away from the headquarters. After having breakfast at home in the morning, I take an auto and go down to the bus park . Sometimes passengers are found in the morning, and the cost of lunch is covered by the same fare.

In the afternoon, I drive to Syaule, Pokhara Bazar, Ait Bazar, Sallaghari, Ghatal Than and Ugratara temple area. After getting a booking, it goes far. When I return home in the evening, I carry vegetables, rice and flour from the market. With this income, I add hand to hand . Our family's diet is normal .

In the morning, after eating the breakfast cooked by my wife, I go to the market . In the afternoon, I usually eat at the hotel. After returning home in the evening, the joy of eating with family is different. Children eat pulses, rice or roti, vegetables, sometimes I come home with fish and meat. That day is fun at home . Children are happy . The wife's face also shines . I think, 'Even if the income is low, the joy of eating together at home is the greatest in the world.' School expenses, clothes, medical treatment are all covered by this small income . When someone is sick in the village, they call night after night. As the ambulance is not easily available, I am taking the patient to the hospital by auto. Sometimes doing this kind of work gives more satisfaction than money.

seems, Auto is not only serving our family but also the village society . I think, the time spent abroad, the service in the army were all just a dream . But now I have found the end of life automatically. Even though the money doesn't do much, I have been able to keep the family together, I haven't had to starve. I wake up in the morning, go to work, come back in the evening . There is a hand-to-mouth connection. Satisfied with this.
