Tribhuvan University Vice Chancellor Prof. Deepak Aryal, Rector Prof. Khadga KC and Registrar Prof. Kedar Prasad Rijal are set to resign. They are resigning to support the new government.
The TU officials are set to resign after the new government recommended an ordinance to the President to abolish all political appointments. Rector KC told Kantipur, 'We are resigning to support the government so that it is easier to work.'
All three officials have written their resignation letters. They will submit their resignation letters to Prime Minister and TU Chancellor Balendra Shah on Thursday.
The then Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli appointed Aryal as the TU Vice Chancellor on Asad 25, 2082. Aryal was appointed as the TU Chancellor after the then Vice Chancellor Prof. Keshar Jung Baral resigned.
KC and Rijal were appointed as rector and registrar respectively on Chaitra 30, 2080, on the recommendation of the then Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal. They were appointed on the recommendation of the then Vice-Chancellor Baral. There is a provision for the appointment of officials of TU by the Prime Minister, who is also the Chancellor. The tenure of TU officials is 4 years.
The government has recommended to the President to issue an ordinance to make special provisions regarding the removal of public officials. The secretariat of Prime Minister Balendra Shah has stated that this ordinance was brought with the objective of removing the officials who were politically appointed in public bodies.
