Twelve Nepali students have received the Ambassadorial-level Belt and Road (BRI) Scholarships provided by the Overseas Chinese Charity Foundation of China for Nepali students. The foundation has been providing scholarships in collaboration with the Nepali Embassy in Beijing. This series began last year.
Acting Ambassador Roshan Khanal said that the scholarship was awarded to 12 Nepali students studying in China based on their academic achievements, contribution to Nepal-China cultural relations, and Nepal's inclusive selection on its behalf. She said, "This award was given after evaluating their contribution among Nepali students pursuing higher education in China." According to Khanal, the organizers have also been suggested to arrange some agricultural training courses for Nepalis in agricultural institutions in China.
Applications were sought from October 13 to 28 for the scholarship. Accordingly, a total of 144 people applied. The organizers and the Nepali Embassy selected the winners based on various categories including academic achievements, scholarship status, gender, class, marginalized community, moral character, social responsibility, etc.
During a ceremony held at the embassy on Thursday, representatives of the foundation said that this method was adopted to encourage Nepali students and strengthen Nepal-China people-to-people relations. The representative said, "The scholarship has been provided to encourage Nepali students studying in China to make further progress in their academic and extracurricular activities."
Among the winners, Chandan Kumar Sah from Madhesh Province received 10,000 Chinese yuan, while 11 others received 5,000 Chinese yuan. Among the winners, 2 are pursuing their doctorate, 3 are pursuing their master's degree, and 7 are pursuing their bachelor's degree.
The awarded students are Bibhush Shrestha, Mandeepmani Suraj, Prabin Bikram KC, Neerag Basnet, Koshis Sharma, Anish Tiwari, Akshara Regmi, Sindhu Pandit, Samata Bajracharya, Sarita Sapkota, and Sanket Yadav.
