The teachers' union will again protest from today, if the demands are not met, they will not return from the streets

The Nepal Teachers' Federation is going to start a nationwide protest from August 9 (today) saying that their demands have not been addressed in the School Education Bill 2080. Federation president Laxmikishore Subedi alleged that the bill has weakened teachers' services and facilities, stability and rights.

Last May, the movement that lasted for a month was suspended after agreeing on 9 points. But since the agreement was not implemented in the bill that was submitted to the House of Representatives on August 6, President Subedi said that the federation started to protest again.

The Federation has opposed the implementation of the agreements reached with the government in 2075, 2078, 2080 and 2081/82, 75% internal and 25% open positions for temporary teachers (instead of the current 60%-40%), periodic promotions, renewal of expired teaching permits, salaries and positions of school employees, services of children's class teachers, security of teachers in institutional schools, gratuity for conflict-affected teachers and transfer of teacher positions to the local level.

Federation President Subedi said that in the first phase of the movement, the Prime Minister, the Minister of Education and the Chief Whip of the political parties will be called to attention on August 9. He said that a 2-hour dharna would be held at the political party's central office, municipalities and districts from August 11 to 20. According to the federation, there will be a second phase of strong agitation from August 21, which will include sit-ins, blockades and protests.

President Subedi said that since the teachers' movement is a fight for the quality of education of students and the respect of teachers, they cannot return from the streets until the demands are met.
