After the workers of the Nepal Vidyarthi Sangh (Navisangh), a brother organization of the ruling Nepali Congress, assaulted the campus head along with the campus administration, the campus administration has shut down the Nepal Engineering Campus citing security reasons. In the said campus located in Bhaktapur Changunarayan, teaching has been stopped for 6 days. But the concerned bodies have not shown interest in solving the problems seen in the campus.
The campus administration has taken a stand that the campus will not be operational until security arrangements are in place, while there is a demand to bring action against the student leaders involved. A complaint has been filed in Bhaktapur Police Complex about this. But till Sunday, the police did not take any action.
According to the campus administration, on June 24, Sajan Deuja, the central member of the Navy Sangh and Prithvijung Thapa, the campus unit president, assaulted and mistreated the campus principal Durga Prasad Bhandari, the assistant principal Mohandhwaj KC and the administration head Shrima Sharma.
Dissatisfied with the conduct of sports activities on the campus, Thapa called Deuja, a non-student of the campus, and beat him up. He told Chief District Officer Bharatmani Pandey in Bhaktapur about the incident of that day. He also informed.
The teachers and staff complained that the police and the administration hesitated to bring the culprits to justice because the ruling Congress was involved in the beating of students. "Teachers and staff have requested in writing that the teaching and learning cannot be conducted until the culprits are dealt with and peace and security arrangements are made," said the campus head steward, "Despite the police entering the campus and beating and misbehaving, the culprits have not been prosecuted." The dispute started after Thapa, the president of the Navy Association, disagreed with the said agreement. It is mentioned in the complaint given by the campus to the Bhaktapur police that Deuja entered and abused 3 people while discussing with him.
On June 22, after the lock imposed by the Navy Association on the same issue was broken by other student organizations, the campus chief Bhandari said that he was beaten when he sat down to discuss. Suddenly hit me too. He also assaulted the head of the campus and the head of administration. They have suffered minor injuries, he said, "The police took them out of the campus." They say that they are unable to conduct classes because they feel insecure. "Informing that the college has been closed due to inhuman and immoral behavior causing mental fear in the operation of the college, it is requested to take necessary legal action against the culprits of the incident and create an environment for the operation of the college," said the letter written by the campus administration to the police.
It has been requested in the letter to provide security for the lives of teachers, staff and students. The campus prepared for the sports week from June 24 to 28. After the incident, even sports program could not be conducted and teaching was also stopped from the same day.
Prajia Pandey of Bhaktapur said that he has instructed the police to arrange security. "There was a request from the campus." We have sent the police," he said, "due to insecurity, the campus cannot be closed. The administration will take care of the security. He said that he did not know about the beating and the closure of the campus.
"The victim can file a complaint about the beating". "The police will proceed with the action," he said. Navy union unit president Thapa claimed that it was just a simple dispute and there was no beating. We have submitted a demand letter regarding sports. The campus administration broke the lock imposed by the union as the demand was not met by forcing other students. There has been a lot of discussion on that issue,' he said.
