In Kawasoti of East Nawalparasi, the 'Reading Culture' campaign has increased the interest of the youth. The Nagar Youth Network has conducted a 'Reading Culture' campaign to inculcate the interest in reading books among the youth who are busy with social media on mobiles, laptops and electronic devices.
In which, on the last Saturday of every month, one person has to study a book and review the book among friends on that subject.
In Kawasoti, for only 11 weeks, young people have been reading books and discussing the positive and negative aspects of them. Active writers, academic personalities, writers, students in the district share their experiences and inform about the importance of book study and the development of writing skills.
More than 800 young people have participated in this campaign which has been running for 11 months. This campaign has inspired the youth to study books, write articles and be creative. Pawan Bhurtel, President of the City Youth Network, which is conducting the 'Reading Culture' campaign in Kawasoti, said, "We provide books for study. Young people have developed a habit of reading books instead of hanging on to electronic devices in their spare time.'
The habit of regularly reading and discussing books by forming groups of young people has also increased mutual brotherhood. At the initial stage, only a limited number of young people participated in this campaign, now the attraction of the youth has increased. The auditorium is now filling up with only 15/20 people in the program. This campaign is very effective and youth must participate. Now students from schools and campuses have also started participating in this campaign.'
Sudip Chapagain, president of Swaviyu Kumaravarti Multipurpose Campus and author, said, "This campaign of acquiring knowledge and skills by studying books while spending time looking at social media and mobile phones, needs to be expanded to other areas as well."
