Emphasis has been placed on systematically giving sexual education to teenagers to take the right path.
In an interaction program on 'Broader Sexuality Education' organized by the Beyond Beijing Committee here on Friday, the Vice President of the Committee, Dr. Lakshmi Tamang, said that despite health and physical education being made compulsory in classes 6, 7 and 8, students do not grow due to shame and the environment where teachers are unable to teach is a problem.
In classes 9 and 10, health education subjects are included in the optional category, so there is no environment where everyone can study. Tamang, the campaigner, insisted that health education should be made compulsory up to the secondary level.
He said that if teenagers can be made aware by giving sex education, they will not fall into sexually transmitted diseases and other deformities, so the media should conduct an awareness campaign on such issues.
