Lockdown in Sanskrit University for four months

Administrative, financial and educational activities have been affected for four months due to the lockdown in Nepal Sanskrit University. The employees of the central office and research center located in Beljhundi are present outside the office. They have not been paid since the lockout.

On December 12th, the main gate of the central office was locked by the Maoist-affiliated Aneraswaviyu revolutionaries, demanding that irregularities in the university should be stopped and the culprits should be punished, a hospital should be built at the Central Ayurveda Vidyapeeth, hostels should be constructed at the Central Ayurveda Vidyapeeth and BP Sanskrit Vidyapeeth Solukhumbu. The office of the research center has also been locked since February. Teaching is going on at the university.

Although there have been many talks about opening the lock, no agreement has been reached. Madhav Adhikari, Registrar of the University said that there have been several talks and most of the demands have been addressed. He also informed that the process has been progressed by allocating Rs.10 lakhs for the construction of OPD and Rs.25 lakhs for the construction of hostels in Central Ayurveda Vidyapeeth. He says that the university is also ready for the distribution of scholarships.

According to the demand of all revolutionaries, the construction of a hospital with 100 beds is not possible with the resources of the university, said the registrar officer. "The university is ready to meet all possible demands from the executive council," said the official, "but the lock has not been opened." The vice-chancellor and the secretary are new to the university. Now after some time the post of Headmaster is becoming vacant. Members of the university say that the matter of who should be appointed as the head of the Service Commission, National Cultural Studies Center and Research Center and who should be appointed as the head of the university has been made a political issue and the lockdown has been prolonged. "Since there is now a coalition government of Congress and UML, it seems that they have put pressure on them to appoint people close to them in those positions," said a member of parliament. Lockout is the last form of protest. The tendency to use it at any time has increased," he said. "The lockout has been going on for such a long time and the responsible people inside the university are also showing their hand."

Acharya commented that the officials of the university are not serious in addressing the demand. After starting the problem, you have to find a solution. It was seen that the officials who are responsible themselves are trying to lock it, but they are not able to solve the problem, he said.
