The Nepal Teachers' Federation has suspended the Kathmandu-centered movement including the educational strike that has been going on for 29 days. Nepal Teachers Federation President Laxmikishore Subedi and General Secretary Tula Bahadur Thapa issued a statement and decided to suspend the protest.
The cabinet meeting held on Wednesday evening has decided on 9 points related to teachers' demands. The government has addressed the demands of the cabinet after the agreement in the talks held in the Ministry of Education. Likewise, the ruling Congress-UML parliamentary party and the Education, Health and Information Technology Committee have committed to pass the School Education Bill by June 15. The Federation has stated that the strike and demonstration has been postponed as some demands have been addressed by the Council of Ministers and a commitment to issue the School Education Act has been received.
Federation has asked the teachers to participate in school admissions, regular classes and examinations. The federation has also warned that if the law is not released within the specified time, they will be forced to take up a strong street protest.
According to the agreement reached in the past, the federation started a street demonstration demanding the release of the School Education Act.
