Voting for the election of the leadership of the Union University is being held on Tuesday in the affiliated and affiliated campuses of Tribhuvan University. The time for voting is from 8 am to 4 pm.
According to Pashupati Adhikari, Member Secretary of the Central Monitoring and Coordinating Committee of the Swabi University Elections, 25 student organizations affiliated to political parties and groups of independent students have participated in the election. Mahendra Multipurpose Campus Dang and Dhankuta Multipurpose Campus have been uncontested in 85 affiliated campuses. Trivi has appealed to conduct the elections in a clean, free and fearless environment by absorbing the laws, rules, regulations and guidelines.
President, Secretary, Treasurer and some members will be directly elected and some members including Vice President, Joint Secretary will be elected according to proportional election system. In the election guidelines, there is a provision to elect the Swaviyu Working Committee based on the number of students in the campus. There will be 11 members in campuses with up to 200 students, 15 members in campuses with 200 to 1000 students, 19 members in campuses with 1000 to 3000 students and more than 21 members. The tenure of the Swabiyu Working Committee will be two years. Since the year 2073, the election based on the mixed system has been started, and the age limit of the candidates has been fixed at 28 years.
Earlier on 5th March 2079, 50 individual and more than 300 affiliated campuses of Swaviyu elections were held, in which 60 percent of students voted. Ratnarajya Lakshmi Campus, Trichandra Campus, Prithvi Narayan Campus and Thakuraram Munyamba, which were not able to hold elections at that time, are preparing to hold elections this time. In 2073, elections were held in only 9 campuses in the valley and 17 campuses outside the valley. Trivika has 22 individual campuses within the valley and 40 outside the valley.
Elections will be held at Kirtipur University Central Campus on 8th Chait and Padmakanya Multipurpose Campus on 7th Chait only. Elections are uncertain due to lockdown in more than 15 Angic campuses. The member secretary officer said that efforts are being made to advance the process in the campus where the election has been postponed and blocked. If voting cannot be arranged on the specified date, the guidelines state that the campus head and the election committee should conduct the self-polling election within 15 days.
The campus head remains the custodian of Swaviyu. The Executive Council of the University announced the date of the election on 14th January. The nomination of the candidate was registered on February 27.
