Tribhuvan University has arranged to appoint a maximum of 3 assistant deans in the offices of the subordinate study institutes and faculties. Rector Khadge KC informed that the decision was made in the meeting held on Friday of the Executive Council to be applied to all 9 institutes and faculty dean's offices.

Earlier, there was a practice of appointing up to 4 assistant deans on the basis of political affiliation. Rector Casey said that there was a discussion in the executive council about reducing the number of co-examination controllers along with the assistant dean. Earlier, the post of assistant dean, co-examination controller was being added unnecessarily to make quota appointments on behalf of Congress, UML, Maoist and other small parties.

4 assistant deans were appointed in the Faculty of Medicine, Engineering, Management, Humanities, Education, Science and Technology. There are 3 assistant deans each in the Faculty of Law, Faculty of Forestry and Faculty of Agriculture and Animal Science.

'In the dean's office where the number of students is low, such as law, forestry, agriculture, even if 2-2 assistant deans are enough,' Rector Casey said, 'In the big dean's office with a large number of students, there is an arrangement that maximum 3-3 people can be appointed. He said that even though 3 assistant deans are called for everywhere at the moment, the executive council has also discussed to keep only 2 people in the junior dean's office.

Earlier it was practiced to appoint 4 deans to be in charge of admission, examination, administration and curriculum separately. Officials say that some campuses are arbitrarily appointing Assistant Campus Heads for the sake of divisiveness. Some campuses have more than 4 assistant principals. After determining the number of Assistant Deans, the Executive Council is preparing to control the appointment of Assistant Campus Heads as well.

After appointing 8 deans, more than 20 campus heads, co-examination controller, and others on the basis of competition, the University is going to proceed with the appointment process of assistant deans and heads of departments. Allegations of political involvement in the appointment of the University are also being made.

University professors argue that the number of professors who teach, read and do research in the university is increasing. According to them, there is a system where only those who are recommended by the party and organization are appointed, and they can enter the competition by applying at least.

Alleging complicity in the appointment of the campus head, the ruling New Union and Aneraswawiu have been opposing the office bearers including the vice-chancellor. The university administration has claimed that some students and alumni leaders have pressured them to appoint professors in some campuses, but in the absence of a favorable decision, they protested by alleging bias.

Last week, the Union Tertiary Unit was dissatisfied with the appointment of the campus head and demanded the dismissal of the rector and registrar. On Saturday, Dujang Sherpa, the president of the Union, issued a statement and warned that quotas will not be accepted in the appointment of the university.

When the head of Terti University Campus Kirtipur asked for an application, only 2 applications were received. Although there is a provision that the recommendation committee should recommend the names of at least 3 people, only 2 people have applied. More than 3 professors applied for other campus heads in Kathmandu Valley.

The professors are not interested because the jurisdiction of the university campus is more and the student population is also more. Professor Akkaldev Mishra and Associate Professor Uddhav Sigdel have applied for the headship. The committee has proceeded with the selection and recommendation process. The Executive Council appoints the head on the recommendation of the committee.

The Institute of Engineering Studies has also started the process of appointment of Assistant Dean and Head of Pulchok Campus on a competitive basis. 5 teachers have applied for Pulchok Engineering Campus Head. The Institute of Medical Studies has started the process of appointment of Director of Teaching Hospital, Head of Maharajganj Medical and Nepalgunj Nursing Campus. The Dean's office has formed a selection and recommendation committee and asked for applications. Sunita Acharya and Tulsa Sunar have applied for the Head of Nursing Campus.
