Debate has started in the Nepali Congress on the Education Bill and the proposed arrangements that have been stalled in the House. The Department of Education under the Central Working Committee has created pressure on the government to pass and implement the bill as soon as possible and to be responsible for educational reform while discussing the issues of the bill.
The department has started a debate on 'School Education Bill and Concerns' by continuously discussing and collecting suggestions. As the third series, in the debate held at the party central office in Sanepa on Wednesday, the department discussed and collected suggestions with stakeholders including teachers, parents, private school administrators. Nainsingh Mahar, the head of the
department, said that when the government kept the bill stuck in the parliament for a long time, there was a problem in the implementation of the subjects provided by the constitution and the environment for getting education suitable for the era was not created.
'We have started discussing the bill continuously. Earlier, we discussed with the officials including the party chairman. "We have discussed with the stakeholders today," he said. And, we draw the attention of the government for educational reform by passing the bill as soon as possible.'
When there is a global change in the education system and its dimensions, Nepal should transform its policies and priorities and ensure quality education, says Mahar, the head of the department.
'There is a need for timely reform in the policy for education that is oriented towards national needs and suitable for the international environment. There is no new education law since 2028. The education sector has sought new dimensions of progress. It is a sad matter that there is no law in Nepal to touch those dimensions. A solution should be found from the upcoming winter session,' says Mahar. According to him, this debate series is also conducted for the formation of the party's educational policy. It is believed that a new debate and reform will be started in the education sector. It is our expectation that institutional policy making will increase the accountability of the party by determining the party's priorities and agenda,' he said.
In the discussion on Wednesday, Congress Vice-Chairman and Member of the House of Representatives Purna Bahadur Khadka said that the government should bring a bill with reforms in the education sector and ensure free and quality education. In the
program, the President of Nepal Teachers Federation Laxmikishore Subedi, the President of Teachers Association Somnath Giri, the President of Parents Association Suprabhat Bhandari, the President of Private School Organization DK Dhungana, the Secretary General of National Teachers Organization Hansha Bahadur Shahi, the School Management Committee Federation and other officials of various organizations participated . They gave suggestions to the department about the arrangements in the bill, the issues to be improved and covered.
