Tribhuvan University has started preparations for the Independent Students' Union (SSU) elections. The University has intensified preparations for the Swaviyu elections to be held on the 15th of February.
Pashupati Adhikari, director of the Directorate of Student Welfare and Sports, informed that the process of conducting the SWVU election has been advanced.
He said that holding a meeting of the Student Welfare Council, it was discussed that the SWVU elections would be held on the specified date. The University has fixed the date of the SWVU election in the academic calendar itself. The director said that he will soon discuss with the student organization and proceed with the election work.
Samik Wadal, president of Aneraswawiyu, said that his organization is preparing for the Swawiyu elections. He said that in order to prepare a manifesto for the Swaviyu elections, a Swaviyu Manifesto Preparation Committee has been formed under the coordination of Vice President Gobind Giri. President Wadal said that the organization has convened a meeting of district presidents of Aneraswaviyu on January 25 and 26 and a central committee meeting from January 6 to 8 for the upcoming elections.
Similarly, Suraj Sejuwal, the spokesperson of the Nepal Students Association, informed that representatives have been appointed in all the campuses where the elections will be held. He said that along with the expansion of the organization in all campuses, a program focused on SWIU elections has been started.
President Pancha Singh of Aneraswaviyu (revolutionary) said that he has instructed the campus committee to prepare for the elections of Swaviyu. 'Since we are currently in the convention, we have not been able to prepare sufficiently. After the convention, the one-point demand of the new leadership is the Swabiyu elections," he said, "the Swabiyu elections will be held on time. We are preparing for that.'
Swabiyu elections held every two years have not been held regularly since 2065. Swaviyu elections held on Chait 6, 2065 were held for the first time in eight years on Chait 15, 2073. Then on 5th Chait 2079, it was completed all over the country except for some campuses. At that time, nine religious campus elections could not be held.
Swaviyu elections will be held in 62 affiliated and 1,040 affiliated campuses across the country. There is an age limit of 28 years in elections and a mixed election system.
