KU failed students also initiated

It has been revealed that Kathmandu University (KU) has initiated the students who failed in the examination and left the class in the middle. In the convocation ceremony presided over by Prime Minister and Chancellor KP Sharma Oli, seven such students were awarded academic degrees on December 29.

According to the documents received by Kantipur, the students who got the degree without completing the academic level are BBA under the Faculty of Management. They were admitted to Little Angels College of Management, Lalitpur, a private campus affiliated to KU.

"Even though they were admitted, some of them left the class in the middle and some of them failed without completing the assigned credits," said a professor of the university. The college also objected that the students who did not participate in the

exam were initiated but the students who passed were left out. Another professor of KU informed that the principal of the college Mitrabandhu Paudel wrote a letter to KU and expressed his displeasure over the fact that students who left classes and failed were given academic degrees. According to him, two students who have met the criteria have been exempted from being awarded academic degrees.

According to the list published by KU, 187 students have been initiated towards BBA this year. Among the names on the list, 7 students left the class in the middle and failed, the college said. Those students have not only obtained the academic degree, but they have obtained the marks even though they did not participate in the examination. Kantipur has found the details that they have been awarded marks from 2.65 GPA to 3.51 GPA from the Examination Control Office.

Balchandra Luintel, a member of the Executive Council and Dean of the School of Education, has written a letter to most of the professors and staff of the university by email saying that it is not a common mistake to initiate the failed students by including them in the grace list.

He has also demanded an investigation in the letter saying that it cannot be considered a human error for a student who left the campus to get an academic degree. Mentioning that everyone should follow the rules, he wrote in the letter, 'Let's not tarnish the brand of KU by correcting the mistake.' told He said that such activities will have a long-term impact on the identity of the university. However, the professors complained that Vice-Chancellor Bhola Thapa, Registrar Achyut Wagle, Controller of Examinations Ramprasad Ghimire, Dean Vijayakumar KC were in favor of not taking action against the general staff of the examination branch citing human error.

'The examination committee is chaired by the registrar, the academic council is chaired by the vice-chancellor,' another professor said, 'The list of failed students is submitted to the convocation ceremony to award academic degrees only after the committee and the council have passed the list. It is sad to get approval after submitting the document to the supreme body of the university, which is signed by the registrar, vice-chancellor, and chancellor.'

Another professor said that it was found that the students who did not take the exam also got marks, so their names could not have been submitted in the convocation due to human error. "There is a demand to investigate and make the truth public. But there has been no hearing from the officials of the university," he said.

The handbook distributed to Chancellor, Vice-Chancellor and Minister of Education, Assembly members, Vice-Chancellor, Registrar, Deans and other officials includes names of failed students.

In the convocation ceremony, Dean Casey said, 'To obtain the degree stipulated in the law and regulations of the university, all those who have completed the necessary conditions of the relevant level of examination as prescribed by the academic council and passed the master's and bachelor's level by 12 November 2081 will be given permission from the university assembly as proof of eligibility. I request to get the permission to present the students to receive the degree certificate,' he announced. After receiving permission from the Chancellor and the Prime Minister, they were initiated and awarded academic degrees.

Vice-Chancellor Thapa said that due to an error, the name of a student who should not have been initiated has been included in the grace list. I have received an error message. It would have been better if there had been zero errors," he said. "We will correct the errors." He said that the student did not receive the academic certificate even though the name "

" was included. This may have happened due to the mistake of students who did not fulfill all the criteria to be initiated. We will correct it after understanding the details," said Thapa.
