The Human Rights Film Center, in collaboration with the National Human Rights Commission, Film Development Board and Film Directors Society, has provided an orientation to filmmakers on human rights.

At the program, Secretary of the National Human Rights Commission, Murari Kharel, gave a special presentation on the principles of basic human rights, freedom of expression, gender equality, child rights, right to privacy and non-discrimination.

He urged to develop a culture of respecting human rights through films.

Commission member Honorable Lily Thapa said that the role of art and culture is important in the protection and promotion of human rights. She urged filmmakers to view various aspects of society from the perspective of rights and convey a positive message through creation.

The directors, producers, writers and artists participating in the program said that cinema is not only a means of entertainment but also a powerful weapon for social transformation.

They expressed concern about the problem of unnecessary censorship when portraying social issues in films. Their argument was that creative freedom should be protected.

Representatives of various organizations and filmmakers from the film industry were present at the program. Pandav Khatri, chairman of the organizing Human Rights Film Center, expressed his belief that the power of cinema can bring about positive changes in the field of human rights.
