It is a matter of concern that the new generation does not come to Thanga!

Discussions were held about the traditional art of Paubha and Thangka painting. On Monday, there was a discussion on the creation and business side of traditional painting in a program jointly organized by the traditional painting department of Prestige and Tamang Journalist Association Kathmandu branch at the Nepal Fine Arts Pragya Foundation in Naxal.

In the discussion titled 'Dimensions of Traditional Art', the head of painting department of the institute, Palsangmo Lama, Paubha artist and writer Ujay Bajracharya, Paubha painting artist Sunil Shakya and Thangka painting artist Anil Ghising participated as speakers. 

artist Bajracharya opined that there are some challenges in creation in the case of technology and modern fusion. Likewise, Lama, head of the traditional painting department, said that the foundation played a coordinating role for the development of Paubha and Thangka arts. "For the development and expansion of traditional arts like Paubha, Thangka, we are trying to include artists and businessmen. It is our intention that both the creation of traditional art and the commercial side should be good," he said.

Businessmen Shakya and Ghising said the traditional painting market is satisfactory. Ghising told that although the market situation in thangka art is good, the presence of new generation artists is low. He said, 'The new generation of artists should come to it. But why he did not come is a matter of concern.' 

Agreeing with Ghising, businessman Shakya said that Pauba artists are able to make a living by creating art and argued that the relationship between businessmen and artists is harmonious. The vice-chancellor of the institution Lalkaji Lama is of the opinion that the expansion of traditional arts should be done in a timely manner. The program was attended by academics, artists and journalists.
