The Indian government has banned 16 Pakistani YouTube channels for broadcasting false and provocative content against India and security organizations after the terrorist attack in Pahalgam. Among those channels are well-known names like Dawn News, ARY News, Jio News, which have a total viewership of over 63 million.
Along with this step taken on the recommendation of the Ministry of Home Affairs, action has also been taken against misleading content spread on social media. An official letter has been sent to the BBC India office from the government side for giving false representation regarding the Pahalgam incident.
On April 22, 26 tourists were killed in a shooting incident in Baisaran area of Pahalgam. The incident is being investigated by the National Investigation Agency (NIA). Out of the five people involved in the incident, three are from Pakistan and two are locals.
It is said that the government has taken strict action against false propaganda that affects the security of the country.
