Activist Dr. Govinda KC, who has been raising his voice for reforms in medical education and the health sector, is set to begin his 24th satyagraha in Dhangadhi, Kailali from Thursday.
Stating that the government has ignored past agreements and his demands, Dr. KC has announced that he will begin his hunger strike at 3 p.m. at the dharmashala of Krishna Temple in Dhangadhi.
Dr. KC’s associate, Dr. Amrit Jaisi, informed that the satyagraha had to be started after the government showed no interest in addressing the demands even after being given a deadline until the 5th of Saun.
In a statement issued on Wednesday regarding the satyagraha, Dr. KC made it clear that the current government must take responsibility for any complex situation that may arise due to the government’s insensitivity. He said he was compelled to once again launch a satyagraha for citizens’ right to health and quality medical education.
These are the demands
This time, Dr. KC has made political interference in appointments and conflicts of interest the main issues of his hunger strike. He has demanded the immediate annulment of illegal and self-serving appointments made in violation of established rules at Dasharath Chand Medical University and the Medical Education Commission, as well as amendments to the disputed provisions of the Act.
Similarly, he insists that the proposal to reduce student scholarships through the Medical Education Commission and to increase seats in private colleges that do not meet standards must be immediately stopped. During his satyagraha, he demands that, in line with the spirit of the National Medical Education Act, 2075, medical education should be made fully non-profit and that the written agreements previously made by the government must be implemented sincerely.
In particular, he has drawn the government’s attention to ending the compulsion for citizens of the Far West and border areas to depend on neighboring India for health, education, and employment, and to protecting national dignity by expanding quality infrastructure and services within the country.
Additionally, Dr. KC has also demanded strict action against those responsible for the heinous murders and robberies that took place in Bhadra 2082 while standing for good governance and justice. He has also called for impartial investigations into corruption and crimes committed by politicians and officials in high positions since 2046, and for action to be taken against those found guilty.
