Doti's first journalist, senior litterateur, sculptor and former teacher Dhan Bahadur Malla passed away on Monday morning. He was around 90 years old.
Malla, a resident of Dipayal Siliguri Municipality-6, Siliguri, passed away at his residence on Monday morning at around 5:30 am. According to his eldest son Yogesh Malla, he was in a normal condition till Sunday. He passed away suddenly on Monday morning without any serious health problems.
Born on Bhadra 5, 1994 to father Man Bahadur Malla and mother Man Kumari Malla, Malla is known as the pioneer of the first generation of Doteli journalism. He started his journalism journey as a Doti reporter for 'Sagarmatha' in BS 2016. After that, he worked as a Doti reporter for the National News Committee (RSS) for a long time from BS 2018.
Along with journalism, he has also made significant contributions to literature, drama, song-music and fine arts. He had written and directed dozens of plays including 'Jai Durge', 'Dhruv', 'Satyameva Jayate', 'Shaileshwari Mahatmya', 'Bharat Milap', 'Adarshya Haat', 'Bhavishya Bolchha Vartham', 'Amako Man', 'Bhalai', 'Ama', 'Milap', 'Parivaar', 'Jagran', 'Dayitva', 'Zangar', 'Bilauna', 'Nari Jagran', 'Parivartan', 'Gaunbensi' and 'Sauteli Aama'. He also actively contributed to songwriting and singing.
Most of the carved and constructed statues in the famous Shaileshwari Temple complex are also considered to be Malla's creations. He was also a former teacher at Padma Public Secondary School, an old educational institution in Doti, established in 2004.
In recognition of his contributions to the fields of literature, journalism, art and culture, he received dozens of awards and honors, including the Provnam Award (2050), the National Talent Award (2053), the RSS Appreciation Letter (2060), the Nepal Music and Drama Academy Pratishthan Samman (2067), the RSS Award (2068), the Nepal Lalit Kala Pratishthan Kader Patra (2070), the Sudurpaschim Sahitya Samaj Pratibhashree Award (2069), the Nepal Lokvarta Third National Sangosthi Abhinandan (2070) and the National Folk and Dohori Geet Pratishthan Nepal Abhinandan (2073).
With the passing of Dhan Bahadur Malla, Doti has lost a multifaceted personality in journalism, literature, art and education. It is believed that his creations, art and contributions will continue to inspire the coming generation.
