A protest has been held in Mahendranagar demanding an investigation into the death of Harikisan Rana of Beldandi Rural Municipality-3 in Kanchanpur.

A year ago, Rana was found dead in Belauri Municipality-10, Shivanagar. The cause of the incident has not been revealed yet. Ranatharu Society, Indigenous Peoples Federation and various organizations have jointly demonstrated on Saturday demanding an investigation into the incident.

The rally, which started in front of the District Administration Office, went around Mahendranagar Bazaar and reached Madan Chowk before holding a corner meeting. ‘Because the Ranatharu are a simple caste, we have not received justice for a year. When will we get justice and who will give it?’ Kamal Singh Rana, the central president of the Ranatharu society, said, ‘We were hopeful until now, but the police administration considered our silence as weakness. If the truth is not revealed, we will launch a strong protest.’ He demanded that the Central Investigation Bureau of the police investigate the incident in the past, but the findings should be made public.

Kriparam Rana, the former president of the Ranatharu society, who is also a member of the House of Representatives, said that it was sad to be forced to take to the streets demanding justice. ‘How did Harikisan Rana die? The police have not been able to say yet,’ he said, ‘The truth of this must be investigated, there should be no delay now.’

Rana was found dead on the side of the road in Shivnagar, Belauri on April 9, 2082. Since then, relatives have been investigating and demanding action against the culprits. The police are still confused about whether Rana's death was a murder, suicide or an accident.

SP Khadak Bahadur Khatri of the District Police Office, Kanchanpur, said that nothing can be said as no concrete evidence has been found yet. 'No clues have been found so far, we are still investigating,' SP Khatri said, 'Investigation is being carried out from various angles, starting from questioning the suspect.'

The District Police Office had taken Shanti Nath, the vice-chairman of Beldandi Rural Municipality, under control and questioned during the investigation.
