The district has been facing a petrol shortage for a week. The disruption in regular supply has directly affected transport services, market activities and daily consumption activities.
There are two petrol pumps in the district. As those pumps have not been able to provide the required amount of petrol, vehicle users have been forced to stand in line since morning. On some days, when petrol does not arrive at the pump at all, vehicle owners have to return home in despair. Motorcycle users have been particularly affected, who are facing difficulty reaching offices, schools and other essential tasks.
The impact of the petrol shortage has also been seen in public transport. As vehicles have started running less, passengers have been forced to wait for long periods of time, and there have been complaints that fares have even increased in some places. Passengers coming and going from rural areas to the district headquarters have been hit even harder.
Similarly, trade and business have also been affected as problems arise in the transportation of daily necessities to the market. According to businessmen, sales have decreased due to non-arrival of goods on time, and consumers have also had to face price increases.
Local auto businessman Laxman Majhi says that he is providing services by ordering petrol from Dhangadhi. 'We are providing services by ordering oil from Dhangadhi,' he said, 'We have adopted alternative measures to provide services to the citizens amid the shortage.' According to him, even though the cost of bringing oil from outside increases, continuous efforts are being made to provide relief to the service recipients.
Chief District Officer Kalpana Ghimire Nepal said that the petrol shortage in the district will end soon. 'The oil tanker has arrived, the problem will be resolved by tomorrow,' she said. According to her, some government offices have provided the amount of oil that was borrowed, and preparations are being made to supply it regularly to the market after the entrepreneurs deposit the remaining amount.
Nepal Oil Corporation Doti Office Chief Urmila Giri clarified that the petrol that was transported could not be distributed due to lack of money. 'The oil truck has arrived, but the truck is not empty because no one has deposited the amount,' she said, 'We do not lend oil, so it can be sent to the pump only after the amount is confirmed.'
