Nepal Telecom's mobile network is not working, and service users in Bajhang are facing problems. Although the network has been experiencing problems for two months, it has not been improved yet. The telecom network has stopped working properly in Bajhang since the first week of Falgun.

Telecom mobile users are facing problems such as calls being disconnected due to lack of phone contact, calls being received without ringing, and only monotonous sound being heard even when the phone is ringing. Similarly, service users are facing problems such as calls being sent to another number when dialing a phone number, not being disconnected for a long time when the phone is disconnected, showing the telephone network but not working, and not being received when a call comes in. 'There was a problem of no phone reception in the village.' "Now, even in the district headquarters, the phone does not ring when it is supposed to," said Asha Jethara of Talakot Rural Municipality, who lives in Chainpur, the district headquarters, "it has been two months since the network stopped working properly."

She complained that when the phone does not ring when it is supposed to, she has to walk to send news even within the district headquarters.
Earlier, there were problems with the network for a while during heavy rain, snowfall or wind. "Now, the network is disturbed 24 hours a day," said another user, Keshav Raj Joshi, "Even if you pick up the phone with difficulty, sometimes you cannot hear what is being said from one side, and sometimes you cannot hear what is being said from one side." He, who is doing business in Chainpur, said that the network not working has also affected his daily business.

Service users have also complained that despite the problems in the network for a long time, there have been no efforts to improve it. ‘This problem has been going on for more than two months. There has been no improvement yet,’ he said, adding that he had also reached the telecom office to complain about the problem. ‘There is a technical problem. They say this has happened not only in Bajhang but in many districts of the far west. If there is a technical problem, why has it not been resolved yet?’ He said that the Bajhang office of the telecom said that the central office was taking initiatives to resolve the problem three weeks ago, but the situation is still the same.

Locals in remote settlements have had to face more problems due to the non-functioning phone network. ‘Someone gets sick. Even if there is an emergency, people have to be sent to inform,’ said Bhim Bohara of Surma. ‘If someone has to be taken to the hospital, who will take responsibility if the patient’s life is in danger while they walk for two to three hours to call a car?’

Nepal Telecom Bajhang Office Chief Bam Bahadur Singh said that the problem has been reported to the regional and central offices. ‘We have already informed the higher offices about the problem after trying our best with the manpower and technology we have,’ he said,
‘We have repeatedly said it in writing and verbally. There is such a problem all over the country. We have received a response that we are trying to improve it.’

He said that such a problem may have arisen due to the high pressure of service users. The telecom had installed and put into operation seven new towers in this fiscal year alone. However, he said that such problems also occur due to the inability to supply electricity to all the towers.

Nepal Telecom has installed 26 towers in Bajhang district so far. Telecom employees say that the network has repeatedly failed to function properly due to the lack of regular power supply to towers in Saipal, Khaptadchanna, Talkot, Thalara, Surma, Vitthadchir, Durgathali, Kedarsyu, Chhabispathivera, Masta Rural Municipality, and Bungal and Jayaprithi Municipalities.
