It has been decided to demand budget from all three levels of government, citing a lack of budget to make the short-term service center for women and children affected by gender-based violence in Kanchanpur effective in the long term.
The meeting of the Steering and Coordination Committee held on Thursday under the coordination of Bhim Budha, Chief of the Social Development Office, Kanchanpur, unanimously decided to take initiatives for the necessary budget management with all local levels within the union, Sudurpaschim Province and the district.
The meeting concluded that due to the low budget, sufficient manpower could not be managed in the operation of the service center, there are currently problems with only two employees operating the service, and the management of victims with mental problems is becoming challenging.
The same meeting also conducted the third quarterly progress review of the service center run by the Social Development Office and Shubhalakshmi Agricultural Multipurpose Cooperative Society. 27 complaints have been registered at the center from Poush to Chaitra 25 of the current fiscal year. Of these, 6 were received through the police, 15 through the one-stop crisis management center, and 6 directly from the organization.
Of the complaints, 13 were related to beatings, 9 were related to missing children, and 5 were related to children living with their mothers. Of these, family reunions have been held in 25 cases, while 1 has been divorced and 1 case is still in process.
Regionally, the highest number of complaints, 8, came from Belauri Municipality. Then 5 from Bhimdatta, 5 from Vedkot, 2 from Shuklaphanta, 1 from Krishnapur, and 6 from other districts. Before that, the total number of complaints at the service center since the organization's establishment until Poush this year has reached 1,967.
In the current year 2082, a budget of Rs 500,000 has been received from the federal government, Rs 500,000 from the provincial government, and Rs 100,000 from Bhimdatta Municipality for the operation of the center.
The service center has been working on the rescue, protection, health treatment, psychosocial counseling, legal services and rehabilitation of women and children affected by violence. It was also informed in the meeting that work is being done to make them self-reliant through skill-based training and to re-engage school dropouts in education.
