The Sudurpaschim Province government has decided to remove the personal secretaries of the Chief Minister and the Provincial MPs.
The cabinet meeting held on Wednesday decided to abolish the personal secretaries by amending the schedule of the Chief Minister and the Council of Ministers Remuneration and Facilities Act 2075 BS and the schedule of the Provincial Assembly Officers and Members Act 2075 BS.
The personal secretaries of the Chief Minister, Ministers, Provincial Assembly Officers and Members in Sudurpaschim Province have not received their salaries since Asoj. Minister for Land Management, Agriculture and Cooperatives Bir Bahadur Thapa said that today's meeting will provide salaries up to Chaitra 15 and suspend the continuity of the service until further instructions. The Union Government's Ministry of Finance had issued a directive on Asoj 5 to reduce the secretariats of the Chief Minister, Speaker, Ministers and MPs and reduce current expenses. Following the same directive, the personal secretaries have not received their salaries since Asoj.
Meanwhile, the provincial government refused to remove the employees in the secretariats, saying that the appointment was in accordance with the provincial law, but stopped the payment of salaries. ‘If the federal government makes a system to have a personal secretary, we will do so accordingly, otherwise it has been decided to implement the directive of Asoj 5,’ said Minister Thapa, ‘the number of ministers’ personal secretaries will also decrease.’
There are currently 52 MPs in the 53-member Sudurpaschim Provincial Assembly. One has been elected to the House of Representatives. There are 6 ministers and two ministers of state in Sudurpaschim, including the Chief Minister.
Since one person is suspended, the Speaker and Deputy Speaker are under 43 others. None of them had even received salaries as personal secretaries. The personal secretaries of provincial MPs were provided with a monthly salary of Rs 34,710, similar to that of a deputy sub-district magistrate.
