It is now possible to travel by jeep in Saipal Rural Municipality, the largest in terms of area and remoteness in the district. A businessman has started a jeep service in Saipal, which has not yet received transportation facilities, by transporting a jeep via helicopter.
The jeep was dismantled from Bajhang Airport and transported in pieces by helicopter. The jeep started providing service after the parts brought to Dhalaun were reassembled. Tamang Construction Service has stated that the jeep has been brought into operation on a road of about 10 kilometers from Jadlek, which is on the border of Talkot and Saipal Rural Municipality, to Dhalaun Village, which is in Wards 1 and 2 of Saipal Rural Municipality. The road under construction is not yet connected to the road network connecting the district headquarters.
Although the district road network has been connected to Kuwa in Talkot Rural Municipality, about seven kilometers of road track from there to Jadlek is yet to be opened. However, Saipal Rural Municipality has already constructed about 10 kilometers of road within its area for dozers to operate. Tamang Construction Service, which was awarded the contract for the construction of the road, has stated that it brought Saipal through a jeep helicopter for construction purposes as it is expensive to transport the fuel used in the dozers by mule.
'We have brought the jeeps especially to make it easier to transport the oil used in the dozers and other construction materials,' said Jagat Tamang, the operator of Tamang Construction Service, 'But we will also provide services to the locals and tourists visiting Saipal.' He said that after the jeeps come into operation, the distance from Jadlek to Dhalaun, which used to take about six hours on foot, can now be covered in less than an hour.
Locals say that after the jeeps are operational, it will not only be easier for the locals to move around, transport food and daily necessities, but also to send those affected by disasters for quick treatment. 'It will now be possible to drive on a road that is almost a day's walk,' said Basanta Bohara, a local from Dhalaun. 'With the arrival of jeeps, it will not only be easier to transport goods, but also to take patients to the hospital faster.'
Dhalaun village, where jeeps have been operating, is located at the entrance to Saipal. The villages of Kada, Dhuli, Nyuna and Balaudi in the northern part of the rural municipality have not yet been reached by road. When locals there fall seriously ill, the rural municipality has been rescuing them by helicopter. Some patients die on the way because they cannot be rescued in time.
