The construction of the Goida Khola bridge connecting the Patan-Pancheshwor road section, which has been abandoned for nine years, has reached its final stage.

A contract agreement was signed in 2073 for the construction of the bridge, which is located at the beginning of the Patan-Pancheshwor road connecting three local levels of the Swara region, namely Pancheswor, Shivnath and Melauli.

The lack of a bridge over the river used to make it difficult for vehicles to move during the rainy season. Although it was easy in winter because there was little water in the river, transportation used to be affected when the river rose during the rainy season.
Kathmandu-based Rafina Construction had signed an agreement on 2073 Paush 12 to complete the construction of the bridge by 2074 Paush 11.

Information Officer of the Road Division Office, Baitadi, Engineer Kapil Prasad Pant informed that an agreement has been reached to complete the construction of this 15-meter-long, two-lane bridge at a cost of Rs 27 million 34 thousand 131. Engineer Pant said that the construction is being completed by next Ashar.

Local construction entrepreneur Madan Mohan Bista, who took over on behalf of the construction company, said that the construction was delayed due to the land compensation dispute. He said that the construction work has been delayed because the plaintiffs have now withdrawn it.

More than 100 small and large vehicles ply on this road section daily. Paras Mangola, a jeep driver on this section, said that when the river rises, the jeep cannot be crossed and has to stop on the other side.

Currently, the Patan-Pancheshwor road is under the Infrastructure Development Office of the Sudurpaschim Province Government. The construction of this bridge is being carried out in advance to hand over the work from the Road Division Office to the Infrastructure Department, said Acting Division Chief Laxman Dutta Joshi, who is in charge of the Road Division Office.

‘The work will be done from constructing the bridge and blacktopping it to the railings on the side of the bridge,’ he said, ‘All the work will be completed within the current fiscal year and traffic will operate smoothly.’ The Division Office has stated that the construction deadline has been extended repeatedly due to the issue and the final deadline has been extended to complete the construction by the end of the current fiscal year.
