It is reported that security preparations for the House of Representatives elections in Kailali have been completed. Chief District Officer Hiralal Regmi said that security has been mobilized in all five constituencies of the district in coordination with the Nepal Army, Nepal Police and the Armed Police Force.
Talking to Kantipur on Wednesday, Chief District Officer Regmi said that all preparations for election security have been completed in coordination with the center, province and local administration. He informed that the District Administration Office has completed the security arrangements in coordination with all three security bodies.
‘All preparations for the elections have been completed. The high command has already monitored security alertness. Regular coordination is being done between the province, district and local security committees,’ he said.
Regmi said that all security bodies are being coordinated and mobilized for the elections. ‘As any incident that may occur in Kailali can affect the entire Far Western Province, security agencies of the Nepal Army, the Armed Police Force, the Armed Police Force and all levels of the Nepal Police are actively mobilized,’ he said.
Pradzor Regmi also said that vigilance has been taken as a challenge to election security in the district as there is a group boycotting the election. He said that although there is a right to boycott the election, activities of obstruction are taken as a challenge. ‘The right to boycott is within the democratic practice, but obstruction is not allowed,’ he said, ‘If there is an attempt to obstruct, we are preparing to manage it according to the legal process.’ However, he said that he is confident that the election will not be disrupted.
He informed that the security agencies are also alert in that regard, saying that there may be potential problems while managing public meetings, rallies and publicity programs of political parties.
Similarly, special surveillance has been increased as there may be attempts to politicize accidents or minor incidents in villages and settlements on the East-West Highway of the Attariya-Chisapani section.
Alcohol prohibition and closure of border checkpoints
To make the election peaceful, the transportation, sale, distribution and consumption of alcohol has been banned before the election. In addition, the District Administration Office has decided to close the open border 72 hours in advance. The security agencies are also conducting joint surveillance to prevent possible criminal activities in the border area in coordination with the Indian security agencies.
The administration has also urged people to celebrate the Holi festival celebrated before the election with dignity and tradition. It is stated that monitoring and action will be taken if DJs and musical instruments are used to jam the road.
Stating that there has been no major violation of the code of conduct in the district so far, Regmi clarified that if there is a violation, an explanation will be sought and action will be taken if necessary. Stating that the security situation in the district has been monitored by the High Security Command, Regmi expressed confidence that the election in Kailali will be held peacefully.
There are five constituencies, 237 polling stations and 641 polling stations under them in Kailali. Of which 78 candidates have filed their candidacies. There are 551,052 voters in the district. Necessary security personnel have been mobilized in all those places and if necessary, special security personnel have been kept on standby by the central security body, said Pradya Regmi.
