Ramesh Lekhak was usually the candidate from the Nepali Congress in Kanchanpur Constituency No. 3. Lekhak, who has been in the parliamentary race since 2056, had contested all the elections from this constituency except the first Constituent Assembly.

At that time, the then senior leader of the Congress, Sher Bahadur Deuba, had contested from this constituency, while Lekhtar was elected through proportional representation. This time, Lekhtar is not a candidate from the Congress in Constituency No. 3.

Instead of him, the Congress has fielded Hari Prasad Bohora. Bohora, who is also a former district president, is contesting elections for the first time. Dr. Deepak Prakash Bhatta is the candidate from the UML in this constituency. In the UML, leader Bhatta became an MP for the first time by defeating Lekhtar of the Congress in the 2074 elections. In 2079, the UML had fielded Nirudevi Pal as its candidate.

The Nepali Communist Party has fielded Man Bahadur Sunar as its candidate in the constituency. Sunar, who was also the former Minister of State for Agriculture in the Sudurpaschim Provincial Government, was elected to the Provincial Assembly from Constituency No. 3 (2) in 2074. The National Independent Party has fielded Gyanendra Mahata as its candidate.

Constituency No. 3 includes Dodhara Chandani Municipality on the other side of Mahakali, along with Bhimdutta Municipality and Bedkot Municipality Ward 8. There are a total of 103,087 voters here, including 50,487 men and 52,600 women.

In the 2079 elections, Congress leader Lekhak won from this constituency by getting 30,575 votes. At that time, UML's Nirudevi Pal got 18,485 votes. In the 2074 House of Representatives elections, Lekhak was narrowly defeated by UML's Deepak Prakash Bhatt. Bhatt had received 26,364 votes while Lekhak got 26,106 votes.

The situation has changed after the Genji agitation of Bhadra 23 and 24. Many are curious about who will win this time from this constituency, where Congress and UML candidates have usually won. Everyone is claiming victory based on the work done in the past and the presence of the party.

Congress candidate Bohara claimed that voters will prefer him based on the development work done by the Congress in the past in this area. 'We have done a lot of work in this area, and it will be taken forward,' Bohara said, 'This area will be developed not only in terms of industry but also in terms of tourism.'

He said that the tourism sector will be developed by connecting Shuklaphanta National Park to the lakes and religious places at the foot of the Chure. Similarly, he said that he will take the initiative for industrial development in this area with the dry port under construction in Dodhara Chandni and the four-lane concrete bridge built on the Mahakali River.

‘I have done a lot of work in the past when I was a minister and a member of the provincial assembly, that is why voters like me,’ said Sunar, a candidate of the Nepal Communist Party (NCP). ‘In the past, I have also built schools, health posts, etc. with my own investment when I was a public representative.’ He said that when he was the chairman of the former Dodhara VDC, he had done work ranging from laying water pipes to building school buildings with his own investment.

Dodhara Chandni has been facing problems of inundation and erosion every year. Hundreds of families are displaced every year due to floods in the Mahakali and Jogbuda rivers. UML candidate Bhatta says that the residents of this area will win because he has taken all possible initiatives, from resuming the reconstruction of Majhagaun Airport in Bhimdutta Municipality to allocating sufficient budget for the Mahakali Corridor.  The focus of all candidates seems to be more on the Dodhara Chandani area, which is considered decisive for area number 3. This time, since one of the main parties is running from the same area, the candidates seem to be more focused on that area.

A dry port is under construction in Dodhara Chandani. The main parties have now made that the main agenda. Apart from this, the four-lane concrete bridge built on the Mahakali has also become an election agenda. As always, this time too, the candidates have raised the issue of building embankments to prevent flooding and erosion of the Mahakali and Jogbuda rivers.
