The death toll in a bus carrying pilgrims in Baitadi has reached 13.

The bus, which was returning from Bhauni in Purchaudi Municipality-7 of the district to Sunkuda in Bajhang, met with an accident at Badgaun Ghumti in Purchaudi-7.

The death toll in the accident involving the bus (Suppra 02 001 Kha 1119) of Pawandut Yatayat has reached 13.

Those who died on the spot are Keshavraj Joshi, 40, a resident of Biththadchir Rural Municipality-7 of Bajhang, Ashok Joshi, 13, Basanta Joshi, 35, Bishnu Dutta Joshi, 41, and Nareshraj Joshi, 42, of the same place.

Similarly, 60-year-old Mohandev Bhatta of Kedarsyu Rural Municipality, 40-year-old Basantaraj Ratla of Jayaprithi Municipality-7, and 40-year-old Pushpa Awasthi of Purchaudi Municipality-7, Baitadi, were killed, informed District Police Office Baitadi spokesperson Senior Deputy Inspector Baldev Badu.

Police said that 45 people were rescued and 40 (13 women, 27 men) were sent to Dadeldhura Hospital for further treatment and 5 were sent to Kotila Health Post in Purchaudi.

Those who died during treatment at Dadeldhura Hospital are Bishan Dutta Joshi, 17, of Bithdachir Rural Municipality-7 in Bajhang, Deepak Raj Joshi, 28, of Antaji, 45, Kishan Dutta Joshi, 27, of Kedarsyu Rural Municipality-7, and Sushil Joshi, 15, of Purchaudi Municipality-7 in Baitadi, said spokesperson Badu.

The bride and groom are safe as they were in another jeep, police said. The Armed Police Force deployed for rescue estimates that the accident occurred due to the bus's pressure pipe bursting and excessive load on the hill.

The bus fell about 200 meters off the road. Locals, Armed Police Force and Nepal Police rescued them at the scene.
