Preparations for the election to be held on Sunday for members of the National Assembly in the Far Western Province have been completed.
The polling station has been set up in the premises of the election officer's office established in Kailali.
Chief of the Election Office Prem Raj Bhatta informed that all preparations for the election of National Assembly members have been completed. According to him, four people are competing from the Far Western Province in the National Assembly member election.
For one seat of National Assembly member that is going to be vacant from the province, Khamma Bahadur Khati of the Nepali Congress and Tikaram Jaisi of the Nepali Communist Party have filed their candidacies, and for one women's quota, Lila Kumari Bhandari of the Nepal Communist Party (UML) and Roji Basnet of the Nepali Communist Party have filed their candidacies. The election is being held as the term of two members (one woman and one man) representing the National Assembly from this province is about to expire.
There is a legal provision that members of the Provincial Assembly and mayors/deputy mayors and chairpersons/deputy chairpersons of the municipalities will be voters in the election of National Assembly members. There are 51 Provincial Assembly members who are voters for this election in the province. One member of the provincial assembly has resigned from his post and one is under suspension. Similarly, there are 173 voters including the mayor/deputy mayor and chairperson/vice chairperson of all the municipalities in the province.
Meanwhile, a joint meeting of the provincial assembly parliamentary parties of the Nepali Congress and the UML in Dhangadhi today has decided to go ahead with the election tomorrow as per the previously agreed alliance. UML provincial secretary Rana Bahadur Chand said, 'A joint meeting of the parliamentary parties of both parties was held in Dhangadhi today. It has been decided to go ahead with the election of members of the National Assembly as per the agreement reached earlier in the meeting of the mayor/deputy mayor, chairperson/vice chairperson elected at the municipal level by both parties.'
