78 candidates have registered their candidacies from five constituencies in Kailali for the House of Representatives elections. As the nomination registration process is nearing completion, leaders who have already been elected in the five constituencies have re-entered the fray.
Candidates who have previously entered parliament from various political parties and independents are also contesting this election.
According to the details released by the Election Commission, candidates from all parties have registered their nominations. According to which, 19 candidates, including 6 independent candidates, have filed their nominations from Constituency No. 1. Out of which, there are only 3 female candidates.
In Constituency No. 2, 16 candidates, including 3 independent candidates, have filed their nominations. There are only 2 female candidates in this constituency. There are no independent candidates in Constituency No. 3. In this constituency, where 11 candidates have filed their nominations from parties, there are only 2 female candidates.
Similarly, in Constituency No. 4, 17 candidates, including 1 independent candidate, have filed their nominations. There is only 1 female candidate. On the other hand, in Constituency No. 5, 16 candidates, including 3 independents, have registered their candidacies, and 3 are female candidates. In Kailali Constituency No. 5, there is an interesting contest between Nara Narayan Shah from the Nepali Congress and Prem Ale from the Nepali Communist Party. Here, Ananda Bahadur Chand from the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Radhika Kumari Karki, Pyarelal Rana and Janak Raj Pathak from the Miteri Party Nepal (MPN), and Roshan Shahi from the RPP have registered their nominations. Looking at the nomination registration details, the number of female candidates is low. Although women have registered their candidacies from some parties, male candidates dominate overall. A total of 11 women have filed their candidacies across all five constituencies. Despite the issue of inclusiveness in the political sector being raised repeatedly, today's nomination registration has shown that the presence of women in direct elections is still weak.
The nomination list includes the presence of major parties as well as some small parties and independent candidates. This time too, the parties have put forward faces that have already been tested, are well-established in the organization, and are familiar to the voters with the aim of ensuring victory. Although there is talk of developing new leadership within the party, its impact in the direct election in Kailali has been negligible.
