Kailali Police have arrested 28-year-old Manish Shrestha for abusing Rama Chand, the editor-in-chief of Dhangadhi-based 'Naya Sandesh' online newspaper.

Journalist Chand was mistreated at the Sudurpaschim Festival being held in Dhangadhi. ‘While I was talking on camera about the festival, an unknown young man came from behind and mistreated me,’ Chand said, ‘I also felt pain at that time.’ But I kept quiet because I felt uncomfortable in that crowd. I have demanded action so that other women do not have to endure such injustice.’ Chand had filed a complaint with the police against the mistreatment.

The arrested Shrestha is a Palpa native and a driver living in Dhangadhi, said Kailali Police Chief SP Narendra Chand. ‘We arrested him on Monday evening and are investigating,’ SP Chand said.

Chand can be seen in a video on Saturday, when he was deliberately pushed from behind while he was broadcasting the festival live. The Nepali Journalists Federation had objected to the incident and demanded action against those involved.
