The Congress Baitadi has recommended candidates from the district for the upcoming House of Representatives elections to be held on February 21.

The joint meeting of the district working committee, general convention representatives and provincial representatives held at the Baitadi headquarters recommended the candidates through a voting process. As per the party's central directive, the candidate recommendation was not finalized by consensus, so the selection was made through a division of votes.

There was a competition between 6 aspirants for the direct candidate for the House of Representatives member. Congress District Secretary Devraj Joshi said that out of 82 people present, including the district working committee, central general convention representatives and provincial convention representatives, 73 participated in the voting process.

In the vote survey, Congress District President Chatur Bahadur Chand got 73 votes out of the 6 direct aspiring candidates, securing 100 percent of the votes.  Chand is also the president of the Nepal Cricket Association (CAN).

Similarly, Bishnu Dutta Joshi got 45 votes, while general convention representative Uttar Bahadur Air got 6 votes. District Vice President Bir Bahadur Bista got 4 votes, provincial member Tej Bahadur Chand got 3 votes, and Nar Bahadur Chand got zero votes. Among the direct candidates, three people, including a woman, had to be voted for. In Mahilam, Janaki Bhatta was the only contender.

Similarly, Kanta Chand, who was aspiring for proportional representation, got 45 votes and Devu Thagunna got 25 votes. 3 votes were invalid in proportional representation. Lokraj Awasthi, Surendra Chand, and Pratap Thagunna have been recommended for the National Assembly member from the district. Secretary Joshi said that the candidate who received the most support in the vote division was recommended.

District President of Nepal Teachers Association Ganesh Singh Bhandari, who was given the responsibility of dividing the votes, said that the votes were divided as per the instructions of the center after there was no basis for reaching a consensus despite long efforts for consensus.
