Arjunnath Yogi of Banedungrasain, Shikhar Municipality-10, Doti, was hit by a motorcycle while walking on the road. After sustaining serious injuries to his leg, the family booked a vehicle for Rs 6,000 and took him to Dadeldhura Hospital. However, upon reaching the hospital, the doctor said that treatment was not possible as there was no X-ray service.
Yogi was forced to return to Doti. According to his son Chandranath Yogi, they became more victims due to the purchase of expensive private medicines and unnecessary travel expenses amid the injuries. This is just one example. Patients who come here for daily X-rays have had to endure similar hardships. The federally-run Dadeldhura Hospital is considered the mainstay of the seven hilly districts of the Far West. However, the hospital, which has been facing complaints from time to time about quality service and behavior of doctors to regular treatment facilities, has come under increasing criticism after the X-ray service has been suspended for five months. Due to the breakdown of the X-ray machine, patients are forced to go to private hospitals in Dhangadhi with minor injuries and complex problems. Service recipients complain that expensive treatment and long-distance travel have put an additional burden on patients. The hospital's medical superintendent, Dr. According to Sudha Devkota, the larger of the two X-ray machines in the hospital is broken. Currently, the smaller machine can only do general X-rays of hands and feet. She said that since it cannot do back, waist or large-sized X-rays, all complex cases have to be referred.
She said that the tender process has begun for the purchase of a new machine as the damaged machine is old and cannot be repaired. According to her, the problem is expected to be resolved within about a month.
Due to the shutdown of services, patients from Dadeldhura and neighboring districts are also suffering. Locals complain that going to Dhangadhi for X-rays is a waste of time and money. Some say that they are not getting even basic health services and free medicines from pharmacies at the hospital. Dheeraj Bhatta from Patan, Baitadi said that there is a problem in the hospital even for getting basic treatment and medicines.
