Political parties representing the Far Western Province Assembly have reached an all-party agreement not to cut the number of personal secretaries to provincial MPs and ministers. The agreement was reached at an all-party meeting held on Wednesday under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Kamal Bahadur Shah.

‘It was agreed that the facilities of personal secretaries that ministers and MPs have been receiving will not be removed,’ said a leader who participated in the meeting.

The provinces had been expressing dissatisfaction with the directives given by the federal government, including the decision to abolish and reduce the personal secretariats of provincial MPs and ministers in the context of expenditure cuts. The decision was taken by an all-party meeting in the Far West after the Finance Ministry sent a letter on Tuesday stating that ‘all provincial work will be carried out in accordance with provincial and federal laws.’ ‘Provincial work is a matter of implementing provincial laws,’ said Speaker Bhim Bahadur Bhandari.

The meeting was attended by Chief Minister Shah, Speaker Bhim Bahadur Bhandari, UML parliamentary party leader Rajendra Singh Rawal, Maoist Center leader Akkal Bahadur Rawal, Nagarik Unmukti Party parliamentary party leader Ghanshyam Chaudhary, Congress chief whip Bikram Singh Dhami, RPP MP Khima Devi Bista and Congress MP Padam Bahadur Shahi.

The all-party meeting also decided to convene the provincial assembly soon. The Provincial Assembly meeting has been suspended after the Provincial Assembly building was set on fire during the Gen-G movement. According to Speaker Bhandari, the meeting room of the damaged building is currently being repaired. Preparations are being made to conduct the meeting within a maximum of two weeks.

In addition, it has been decided to mobilize security agencies through the Provincial Security Committee to provide security to the offices of the provincial government bodies that were previously provided with security as before.
