The lockout in Surnaya Rural Municipality of Baitadi has not been lifted even after a week. The Genji group had locked down the rural municipality office last Friday, alleging that the municipality had not been informed on time and that its demands had not been addressed.
The group that locked the road had said that it would open the road after discussing with the District Coordination Committee, District Administration and Executive Team and municipal employees to resolve the problem. On Friday, a discussion was held between the executive officials, District Coordination Committee team and the Genji group.
The Genji group leader Bishal Bhatta said that the discussion ended without a conclusion as the people's representatives did not want to address the demands they had put forward and tried to delay them. 'Until our demands are clearly addressed, the road will not be opened,' he said.
The discussion was positive and an agreement has been reached on seven of the 10 demands put forward by the youth, said Municipality Chairman Amar Kunwar. 'We will fulfill the legitimate demands of the youth,' he said, 'Some have been agreed upon. Now, we will discuss the rest and provide information on as many things as they can.'
