The number of people registering their names in the voter list at the District Election Office, Dadeldhura, has been seen to be low.
The Election Commission has launched a nationwide voter registration and update campaign from October 10 to mid-October, but only 121 people have registered their names as of Thursday, according to the Election Office, Dadeldhura.
Bhawani Dutta Bhatta, a computer operator at the office, said that the current system requires a Nepali citizenship certificate and a citizenship holder to fill in their details online for registration with the commission.
‘A Nepali citizenship certificate is mandatory for registration in the voter list. There is a system in place for citizenship holders to fill in their details online,’ he said. ‘It is necessary to come to the office for biometrics, but all other details can be filled from home using a mobile or computer.’
According to him, there is a delay in registration due to not knowing how to use the online system or lack of internet access. ‘Now, young people who have recently acquired citizenship are coming to register more, while the participation of other age groups is low,’ he said.
