In recent years, road and bridge construction work has been stalled due to the government not prioritizing the construction of provincial pride roads and a lack of budget in the province's multi-year contracts.

The Far Western Province government has constructed 89 concrete bridges and 3,264.68 kilometers of roads in a period of 7 years.
Before 075/76, there were 3,954 kilometers of unpaved roads, and 1,593 kilometers have been added to reach 5,547 kilometers. From 1,158 kilometers of gravel roads, there have been 1,149 kilometers added to reach 2,307 kilometers. The Ministry of Physical Infrastructure Development has stated that 23 billion 30 million 1381 thousand were spent on road and bridge construction during the fiscal year 075/76 to 081/82. Before 075/76, 234 kilometers of roads, excluding national highways, were blacktopped. The report of the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure Development states that 622.67 kilometers of blacktopped roads have been added to reach 856.67 kilometers in the past 7 years. Although it is seen that a significant length of roads have been constructed by connecting separate sections of various roads, the number of large road projects initiated and completed by the provincial government itself is low. Not a single one of the 9 roads being built by the Sudurpaschim government in the name of Province Gaurab has been completed. Construction of 2.3 kilometers of the four-lane main road in Dhangadhimo, 1.5 kilometers of Campus Road-Jugeda, and 14 kilometers of Bhajani-Sukkhad has been completed. Various sections have also been blacktopped under the Province Gaurab road project.
According to the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure Development, although the target set by the government in the five-year plan (up to 082/83) was achieved a year ago, the target of providing access to road transport to 85 percent of the population within half an hour has not been achieved.
Even now, residents of rural areas in mountainous and hilly districts are forced to walk for hours for transportation facilities. Saipal in Bajhang and the center of Apihimal rural municipality in Darchula are still out of reach of roads. All other 86 local level centers of the province have been connected to the road network, said Ramchandra Khatri, Chief Engineer of the Transport Infrastructure Division of the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure Development. The ministry has stated that 89 road bridges have been constructed in the past 7 years. The target was to construct 18 during the periodic plan period. He said that 293 suspension bridges have been constructed during this period. The target of constructing 900 kilometers of provincial roads by 2083/84 is unlikely to be met. The provincial government is moving ahead with the plan to construct 913 kilometers of roads by selecting one provincial road project in each of the nine districts. The ministry has stated that 228 kilometers of roads have been blacktopped so far on the provincial roads that were constructed in 2076/77.
In recent years, the government has not prioritized the construction of provincial roads and due to a lack of budget in the province's multi-year contracts, road and bridge construction work has been stalled.
The Sudurpaschim Province government, which allocated Rs 6.91 billion for road and bridge construction in the current fiscal year, has spent Rs 23.3 billion, 13.81 billion on road and bridge construction in seven years. The government had allocated Rs 35.3 billion, 21.5 million for this period.
