High alert has been adopted in Kanchanpur after bird flu infection has been observed in nearby areas including Uttarakhand in India. After the confirmation of the infection in the border area, Nepal has adopted vigilance with awareness.
The District Bird Flu Disease Control Committee has said that it is conducting awareness program in the border municipalities along with tightening the import and export of birds and bird products at the borders. Shyam Khadka, Head of the Veterinary Hospital and Animal Services Expert Center in the district, said that since the infection was seen in the border area, awareness campaigns were conducted to prevent it from spreading in Nepal. He informed that an awareness program on bird flu control and ban was conducted in Dodharachandani, Belauri, Punarwas, Bhimdatta municipality and Beldandi village which are bordering with India.
'After the bird flu infection was confirmed in the Indian border area, we are conducting an awareness program towards Nepal,' said Khadka, 'Because of the easy supply due to cheap prices and open borders, there are also illegal imports, which has increased the risk of infection in Nepal as well.' He says that if the
infection spreads, all the chickens reared in this area must be destroyed, so awareness is necessary for timely control. Chief Khadka informed that in case of infection, symptoms such as death of chickens, loss of feed, etc. will be seen. He urged all the farmers to immediately inform the animal expert or veterinary hospital and animal service expert center if such symptoms are observed in their chickens.
Meanwhile, the District Bird Flu Disease Control Committee has decided to completely ban the import of Indian chickens to Nepal. The meeting held on Tuesday decided to adopt high vigilance to prevent the spread of bird flu in Bageshwar and Udhamsingh Nagar in the state of Uttarakhand, India, after it was confirmed by various media. The
committee has completely prohibited the import and transportation of poultry and poultry products from Kanchanpur's rehabilitation, Belauri, Beldandi, Dodharachandani and the border areas of Bhimdatta Municipality 1, 2 and 10. For the effective implementation of the decision, a team consisting of representatives of all security agencies, veterinary hospital and animal service expert center and animal quarantine office will carry out emergency monitoring, informed Khadka, the head of the center.
According to him, the committee has decided to strictly control such materials and take action according to the law if illegal materials are found to be imported during monitoring.
