Due to the illegal entry of Indian fish through the open border here, the local fish farmers are in trouble. Farmers are in trouble as the fish produced here cannot get a reasonable price.

Farmer Sanoj Chaudhary of Kailari Rural Municipality-5 Gobarela said that although there is no problem in the market for the sale of fish produced here, due to the illegal entry of Indian fish from different borders of the district, they are not able to get proper prices.

'Due to fish coming in from outside, we are not able to sell at the desired price, this has caused problems in business operations and financial management,' he said.

Indicating that the fish produced here is sold at Rs. 250 per kg in wholesale and at retail at Rs. 300 per kg, Chaudhary said that the fish imported from the borders are sold at Rs. 220 per kg in wholesale and at retail at Rs. 280 per kg.

'Fish brought from India tends to be cheaper than the price of fish produced by us. Because of this, it is a problem that the fish produced by commercial fish farmers do not get a reasonable price,' he said.

Stating that three ponds have been built for fish farming, Chowdhury gave information that common carp, grass, rahu and pangases species are being reared.

Naresh Shah, a fish farmer of Dhangadhi sub-metropolitan city-2, complained that although there is no problem for fish sales, the sales rate has not increased due to illegally imported fish.

He stressed that strictness should be imposed in the border area to stop fish entering illegally from the border.
