International border connecting Nepal-India at Baitadi will be closed tomorrow (Friday) from 7 pm. Assistant Chief District Officer Vednidhi Khanal said that the ghats operating in Lower Sorad area including Zhulaghat crossing will remain closed.
Keeping in mind the security of the panchayat elections in Uttarakhand state of India, the border crossing is going to be closed from 7 pm on Friday until the voting process is completed on July 12.
The Indian side has written to close the border for panchayat level election security. In the border security coordination meeting held in Pithoragarh, India, a few days ago, there was an agreement to close the border crossing during the election. Accordingly, the district administration office, Baitadi, has informed through a notification that the border crossing has been closed.
Baitadi's Dasarathchand Municipality, Shivnath Rural Municipality and Pancheshwar Rural Municipality are connected with India. At Jhulaghat Naka of Dasharathchand Napa, traffic is done through the bridge. From 9 places in the lower Sorad area (Pancheshwar, Shivnath rural municipality), the Mahakali river is crossed by ferry between Nepal and India.
