In Shuklaphanta Municipality-5 Khajuwa, the local farmers have become alarmed after the incident of tigers pulling and eating quadrupeds from the cowshed at night.

Life has been affected after adult tigers coming out of Shuklaphanta National Park entered the settlement and started eating domestic animals like cattle.

Only last night, a local Hema Dhami's calving cow was dragged from the cowshed by a tiger and taken to 200 meters and eaten. Earlier, Devki Pandey's Laino buffalo and Kanjado Dhami's cow were also dragged from the barn and eaten by tigers.

A few months ago, Manmati Dhami, who was milking a cow in the barn, was injured when a tiger attacked her. Ward member Jayaraj (Jeevan) Pandey said that the tiger started appearing in the slum before evening. The tiger has not yet been brought under control.

According to him, the park office has installed four automatic cameras to monitor the Patebagh. It has been confirmed that an adult tiger has been seen. In order to reduce the risk of tigers, the team of Nepalese army deployed for the security of the park is on patrol and the forest guards have also increased their vigilance.

Local Shivi Luhar says, 'The tiger was seen yesterday, even today, now people are afraid to walk in the slums at night, there is an increased concern that there will be human casualties.' Locals say that not only tigers, but also other wild animals such as elephants damage the grain crops. In addition, the problem has become more complicated when the tiger started eating the quadrupeds tied in the barn.

The demand of the local residents is, 'electrical mesh wire should be installed in the settlements connected to the park area, so that wild animals can be prevented from entering human settlements.' According to Ward President Chakra Bahadur Khadka, the local farmers have to face harassment every year as there is a settlement near the park. "We have been repeatedly requesting for the connection of electric wires," he said, "but the work has not yet progressed. We are confident that the work will progress as we have been assured of an increase."

According to him, as the budget of the ward is not enough, the provincial government has been requested. It has been reported that Meshwire will be connected in some areas within this financial year. He said that effective security structure and coordination of active park administration is indispensable for permanent solutions for wild animal control.
