Four municipalities of Kanchanpur have declared a public holiday today. On the occasion of the Gangadshahara Mela in Bhakunda located in Belauri municipality-5, four municipalities here have given public holidays.

Belauri and Punarwas Municipality, Bellandi Rural Municipality of the district have given one day holiday on Thursday, while Laljhadi Rural Municipality has decided to give two days public holiday on Thursday and Friday. 

Belauri municipality chief Potilal Chaudhary said that the municipality has given one day public holiday for the fair to be held at Bhakunda, the main religious destination of the municipality. According to him, every year on the day of Shukla Paksha Dashami Tithi of Jyeshtha month, the famous religious place Naktababa (Kaleshwar Mahadev) temple in Ward No. 5 of Belauri Municipality is held.

'Our aim is to develop the historical Naktababa in this area as a major religious tourist destination', Mayor Chaudhary said, 'Considering its importance, we have given a day off to Gangadshahra every year.'

Lal Bahadur Chaudhary, the ward chairman of Belauri Municipality-5, said that a big fair has been held at the Naktababa temple since ancient times. 'A big fair is held in this place known as Naktababa in the language of the Ranas,' he said, 'More than one lakh pilgrims from Nepal and neighboring countries come here.'

Ward president Choudhary said that the municipality is taking initiatives to keep this area in the list of religious heritage. Visitors from Kanchanpur, Kailali and Bardia districts and neighboring countries such as Khiri, Bareilly, Kanpur and Lucknow come here for the fair.
