Dhangadhi sub-metropolitan city has destroyed 2,267 kg of mangoes that were treated with pesticides. In the joint monitoring conducted by Sub-Metropolitan Assembly and Food Technology and Quality Control Office, Dhangadhi and Pesticide Residue Rapid Analysis Laboratory, Attaria, mangoes were destroyed after finding that amount of pesticide used.

Mahesh Malla, head of consumer welfare protection branch of the sub-metropolis, informed that during the monitoring of three haat (fruit and vegetable) markets in the sub-metropolis, inedible mangoes with excessive use of pesticides were found and destroyed.

According to him, samples of vegetables and fruits were collected and tested from Sahid Gate agricultural produce wholesale market, Dakshinkali Marg Sabzi Mandi and Haat market located at Chauraha in Dhangadhi.

In the wholesale markets and markets, okra, cucumbers, gourds, bitter gourds, bananas, grapes, apples, pomegranates and mangoes were tested for pesticides, indicating that the amount of pesticides in mangoes was high, Malla said, and unfit mangoes were seized and destroyed. Hareram Pradhan, Head of Food Technology and Quality Control Office informed that during the test, pesticide residue was found in mango among the fruits imported from India.

According to him, in joint monitoring, 18 samples of fruits and vegetables were collected from three haat markets using mobile food mobile laboratory of Food Technology and Quality Control Office. He informed that 2 thousand 267 kg of mangoes were destroyed as 61 percent of the mango sample was found to be inhibited when the pesticide residue of that sample was tested by rapid analysis method.

Mentioning that the quality was not found in the remaining 17 samples, the Chief Pradhan said that although the pesticide residues in other vegetables and fruits were normal, they were considered edible. According to him, due to the high level of pesticide residue in mangoes, it has an adverse effect on the health of the citizens, so it has been declared unfit for consumption and destroyed.
